Massive solar flare narrowly misses Earth, EMP disaster barely avoided
http://washingtonexaminer.com/massive-s ... le/2533727
The earth barely missed taking a massive solar punch in the teeth two weeks ago, an "electromagnetic pulse" so big that it could have knocked out power, cars and iPhones throughout the United States.
Two EMP experts told Secrets that the EMP flashed through earth's typical orbit around the sun about two weeks before the planet got there.
How prepared are you for an EMP?

Thanks for posting this. It is a topic I've thought about, but never done anything about. I have several tablet devices and have wondered about how to protect them. This link has a good article on a simple method to protect a small number of devices. I can't attest to its reliability.

How about the lock on your gun safe?
After an EMP event would be a bad time to not be able to get to one's collection.

Oh man-- My 650 has a casefeeder. That's gonna slow me down some.
Good point about electronic locks on safes, too.

Oh yeah.
I knew there was something I was overlooking.
Can the electronic one be replaced by a dial?

Yep. The last quote I got was around $225. That included them coming to the house. I wish there was a way the keep the electronic lock and have a keyed lock backup.

Chilling. Having read One Second After, the reality of the life expectancy for a loved one who is insulin dependent is sobering.

Yep. I have a friend who uses a pump. He has a propane fridge in his garage connected to a very large propane tank. He stores a very healthy supply of insulin.

There are some safes that do have this feature. My safe is like that. You can remove the elock and get to an opening in the door that is designed for a special skeleton key.
I love this feature.
