For the longest time I would only carry revolvers with the fear of shooting myself in the leg...Just always had a fear, of maybe, my legs rubs it the wrong way, or I put a pen in my pocket or something..I mean..no one wants to be shot, let alone shot my their owe self...

Took my 442 to the range maybe two weeks ago, and couldn't hit the squat. 3 yards, 7 yards... GP100, Glock 19, on the money (Now, I know it's not the gun, I mean practice , practice practice.... I'm sure it was me )
But nonetheless, If ever I had to fire, I would want to be a little more confident I was going to hit an attacker. So I switched to my PM9, Took it to the range 3 weeks in a row, Pretty spot on out to 7 yards...Table top Flat ( CHL Instructor, Made us qualify this way ) Does not work for the Kahr, Well at at least not mine....Anyways.... Carried it for a week or so and fear just went away...Don't Know how or why but it did, and I feel pretty good about it, opens up my CCW choices...

Now I need to pop over to the other topic and see what holster anyone can recommend...

Years ago I had the same fear. I used snap caps in my gun with 1 in the chamber like the real ammo and carried the gun that way for a couple of weeks to make sure I didn't accidentally touch the trigger. After that, I was not scared of having 1 in the chamber anymore.

I couldn't carry my G17 often, just to big. but even when I did, I didn't have one chambered. So, I carried my wife's .38 spl most of the time (she doesn't carry-no chl). Liked that it had a real heavy trigger, but it has only five rounds
so recently I got a Ruger SR9C. 10+1, has a manual safety. Now I carry loaded in the chamber, w/ safety on. Now, I know many may say in a stressful situation you might forget the safety is on, but I look at it this way...rather flip the safety w/ my thumb then rack w/ both hands.

I don't know if my concern w/ a chambered gun has gone away. Maybe i feel that my carry weapon is safe because of the safety.

I'm not criticizing you but I want to cause you to think. If you were in George Zimmermans situation (ignore all the hype), would having a manual safety on hinder you and possibly cost you your life? I carry the SR9c and do not use the safety. After draw and dry fire practice showed me that about 10% trying to disengage the manual safety made me less safe and cost me valuable seconds, I quit using it. If it were a 1911 with a hare trigger, that be a different story.

Mine's got a pretty light trigger. I don't think I'd be comfortable without the safety on, but I do keep one in the pipe.

Carry one in the pipe, no safety, since day one. As long as its holstered with the trigger covered, it's safe.

I carry my Glock 22 chambered. At first I was skepticle. BUT! It is safe. Thats where a Holster molded for your gun is best. It covers the trigger.
Like jayinsat said- you dont want to be fumbling for the safty during a stressful siruation where seconds count.

I have never understood the trepidation some people have over using a tool the way it was designed to be used. I can only think to attribute it to a subconscious fear implanted by the constant barrage of anti-gun propaganda from the media.

Also a healthy respect that mechanical devices can and do fail.
Initially I had a 1911. I managed to overcome my fears by CCing a week with it cocked and locked but no round in the chamber. Although the safety came undone a few times with one holster it was reassuring (a long thumb safety is not necessarily a good thing without the proper holster).

Now I have an M&P with one in the pipe. I still would like a grip safety or active safety for the times I take it out of the holster to transfer to something else, as I have dropped a pistol before. but when its in holster I feel just fine. The holster is stiff kydex and intentionally very stiff to draw from to avoid accidental slippage. So I am good there.

Interesting how many people are scared of their gun. If it's in a quality holster, the trigger is NOT going to get pulled.

I think there more afraid of an accidental discharge in public. A lot for people that never owned a striker fired pistol with the trigger safety's are especially concerned. Once they find our that it's perfectly safe to carry racked they should have no fears. Like nyj said get a good holster designed for your gun & get rid of those fears!!!!

Its not the pistol in the holster (it wasn't for me anyway). Its the pistol falling from the holster, or out of your hand, or an accidental discharge when you draw it.
