OK,
So a buddy of mine says I can walk onto the range tomorrow which is holding an IDPA qualifier. I think I am going to do it. What is the etiquite for walking on? I will read the guidelines tonight at least :-)

1.Be safe and open to suggestions about safety. Ask questions about where your gun should remain when a cease fire is called for the rest of the range and things of that nature.

Usually the person taking money can help you with any questions you have.....don't be shocked if the classifier is booked....it happens. I would stay and watch anyway.

2. Bring your gun, holster, mag holder, and at least three mags. I believe the classifier is 90 rounds. Take a little extra just in case you have a malfunction. You do not have to wear concealment clothing during a classifier.

3. Have fun and welcome to your next addiction

Thanks J. Right now, I am reading the rules to see if my holster is acceptable. Matrix 7 Right Hip, OWB...

If you have never shot an IDPA match, don't be surprised if they don't allow you to shoot the classifier.
Typically, a shooter will participate in several matches before classifying as it will enable him/her to become familiar with rules and procedures.

Classifiers are usually full, as already stated and the MD/SO will be VERY busy.
Participants will gladly answer questions about rules, gear, etc when they're not shooting.

I think I just created a new classification, the "You Suck" category... :-)

Maybe, but at least I am the up and coming frontrunner in this cat. Maybe next time I will get to finish :-)

Anyone that displays the courage to walk into a match and learn to improve has the edge on most people ;-)

There is always someone out there that will be a little bit faster and smoother to learn from. I hope that you had a good time at the match...keep having fun and I promise the skills will improve at a rate you decide with practice.

I am getting off of here to do some dry fire this second! Take care.

Well, you can't say you weren't warned!

My first time at IDPA, I was just determined not to come in last. And I didn't... but not by much!

Live and learn to shoot another day...

Is there a way for me to tell how I did (some kind of score) up until I DQ'd?

Maybe they will list your scores to that point, but most likely the score sheet will just say DQ'd or nothing at all about the classifiers.

What did you learn from the DQ? If it does not make you uncomfortable....can you let us learn from what led to this call? Your experience can make us all safer at the range.

I have heard from many of my respected mentors that they are two kinds of shooters....those that have been DQ'd and those that will be.

I hope that you had a good time and plan to return once the nerves have settled and the situation has been thought about for a couple of days. Everyone that has ever shot an IDPA match understands the pressure that the evil timer puts us under!

Lesson learned:

I as the "Receiver" need to provide more "feedback" to the "Sender" to make sure he/she understands that I received the "message" properly...

I had a great time. Even after DQ I still got to watch since I had to wait anyway to do my Texas CHL Qual.

I am not on edge, nerves, uncomfortable or anything else. It's a sport... ANy sport that everyone walks away from is fine by me :-)
