In Las Vegas, two so-called sovereign citizens, a 67-year-old white former beauty queen and a 42-year-old white convicted sex offender, were arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit murder and attempted kidnapping.

Authorities allege that they were conspiring to kidnap and execute police officers. All criminal defendants are presumed innocent until found guilty.

What happens in Vegas does not always stay in Vegas.

No one has been able to explain to me the difference between a sovereign citizen, a sociopath, or an anarchist. They all seem headed in the same direction.

There are some genuine fruitcakes out there. I had a run in with a group about 15 years ago.

There was a fellow with a band of acolytes going around giving seminars around Southern California, teaching among other things that US currency was no good, void, illegal, so was the Fed, because the Speaker of the House had his fingers crossed when he signed the law before transmitting it to the President or some such silliness. They teach that the courts have no jurisdiction, etc. along with all sorts of fanciful notions about individual rights, duties, powers etc. In the service, this was sometimes referred to as "everyone else is out of step but me!"

At the seminar, they distributed Sovereign Notes which they claimed could be used in place of void US currency. At least one fellow took his Sovereign Notes to a Lexus dealer and drove off in a brand new Lexus. In my run in, one of these demented souls was in foreclosure and tendered Sovereign notes in satisfaction of the loan on his property. I of course, rejected the payment and continued the foreclosure. I was sued in the Citizen's Sovereign Court in Montana or some such, for $10 million, which I paid by photocopying the Sovereign Notes until I had $10 million worth (I use that term out of habit, not because it has any real meaning in this context!) and paid my debt! The fellow with the Lexus was jailed for auto theft, I recall.

They usually seem to want to be free from taxes, speed limits, vehicle registration, and insurance. But I've never been able to get one of these people who thinks U.S. currency is "worthless" to give me some of his.

Notice the implicit media bias in calling them out as white, even though that is meaningless to the story.

It isn't media bias. It is a fact. They are about as white as someone can be without being an albino.

Yes, but I think his point is, the story volunteers that information as if it is pertinent, when it's not. This is in contrast to the fact that race or skin color is often left out if the perp is of color.

What is or is not relevant? Every police report is going to list name, age, sex, race, place of residence, nationality, and immigration status if known. They also try to get profession or job (or lack thereof) and marital status. All these things can be relevant to an alleged crime.

It's Fox News, by the way, not exactly a bastion of white liberal self-hatred.

I understand your point about police reports and relevant information, but we are talking about a news story. The police report would, I assume, be filled out with some uniformity whereas a news article can vary considerably depending on the author's artistic stylings.

Fox news has left leaning contributors as well as the more prominent conservative ones, but you're correct, it is not considered liberal like other outlets.
