People always wonder why leos are taught that they should carry 24/7 . Last night we are out. I wasn't carrying as I was drinking some beer. I also had a DD. We check out a new bar in the middle of nowhere with some friends. A friend of mines friend is giving me a beer when the guys wife/girl friend yells "Don't give him a beer, he looks like a cop! " Yup....talk about being fronted out in a potentially unfriendly environment . I replied in a nice polite tone yup I sure am thanks for the beer! Yup that is a part of the job TV doesn't portray. After so many years you get made wherever you go. I guess my boots, wranglers and shirt were a dead give away.

Yep my uncle is a retired Bexar county deputy an he still looks and acts like a LEO my grandfather was same way in fact.

Wife and I were out to dinner with a three of local cops (two of which are also a couple and good friends.)

The waiter made some inane joke comment about not having more then a few beers tonight or the cops would get us. I made the mistake of saying something about "They are already here"

Waiter left with a somewhat puzzled look... and I was quietly chastised about outing them BEFORE the food arrived ... Never let them know that BEFORE the food arrives...

When I was on active duty 45 years ago, Navy officer in San Diego, we stood out at civilian bars etc like sore thumbs. We had haircuts, unlike the doper dirt ball hippies on the beach. It's worse now, although the attitude towards the military is vastly improved.

Several years ago about 18 of us NCOs and 2 LTs were out eating in Austin. We'd been doing some training at Camp Mabry that day. One of the patrons was leaving with his wife and remarked "Why don't you guys go pick up some girls." as if we were gay, or something because of our haircuts, how we dressed (wearing civies) and behaved ourselves, I guess. Funny thing was, half of us were happily married.
