I'm glad we have normal Americans out there that do the right thing and stop bad things from happening and don't just "walk on by or run away" from evil deeds...

I hope the baby is okay.

Was this guy playing "Batman"? Is he a wannabe cop? Should he have just minded his own business and been a good witness? What say the folks that say they carry a gun for their own and their family's protection? I'm interested in your take.

I think he did the right thing.

I think that while, yes, I carry my gun primarily for myself and my family, if a child or other innocent needs help and I can safely give it, I should...

It's good he stepped up.

I don't know that he had to actually pull his gun to intervene. I think generally we shouldn't be worried about apprehending people if we do get involved.

I would personally be a bit concerned about doing so myself from a tactical standpoint. If they ignore my threat and flee that's fine but if ignore the gun and start running with the child? If they escalate to violence thinking they were defending themselves? I don't like saying or acting in a way I can't back up. If I wouldn't shoot them they I would hesitate to pull my gun. Once my gun is drawn it can limit options. That being said it worked, I wasn't there, and good job.

The story states he pulled his gun and made the parents sit until the police arrived. No charges are expected to be filed against the CHL holder.

So? Like I said I'm not trying to second guess him since I wasn't there but thinking about it I can see it going bad in so many way that I wouldn't assume it would go down the same in another similar situation. What if they denied everything and blamed the injuries on you? What if there weren't reliable witnesses? What if the parents just ran? What if they attacked? What if they just looked at you like a loon and walked down the street like nothing happened ignoring you as you wave a gun at them making you look questionable at best. All I'm saying is as a tactical decision it seems risky but thankfully it worked for him.

This seems to have worked out favorably for the CHL'r, but I wouldn't have faulted him for standing by and just calling 911 either. It's admirable that he protected this stranger, but had this gone wrong, who would be taking care of his family while he's locked up?

I am generally a mind your own business kind of guy, and NOT a batman, but when kids are getting hurt, I'm going to step in. I have had to do CPR for real on far to many children beaten to death by their parents. I am NOT going to stand around and watch it happen to a child and not step in and do something about it.

Period.

By any means necessary.

It shouldn't be and either or answer. There are many responses that I could do that wouldn't require me to ever pull my gun when I certainly have heard nothing about any other weapons being found. But I'm not a small guy and not elderly or infirm. I don't know about the guy here so it makes it harder to say. I do believe that mentioning the risk of making that your first option is warranted without knocking the guy who got involved.

Its not an either/or question it is one of morals and beliefs I am not a big guy 5'6" but I could not stand by idle and watch a child be injured by stupid people the only reason I said armed or not is because the weapon gives people a higher level of courage kind of like beer does. Point is the guy steped up and stopped further damage to child on that point alone his gets a :thumbs2: from me. His use of his firearm well that was his choice Iwas not there to judge right or wrong.

I don't know what I'd do. I'm worried about what the wife would do. She specialized in working with child victims and has no mercy in that regard.

Since no one has said anything but good thing about the guy getting involved I think we can take it as a given. But, as I said before I do believe that mentioning the risk of making that your first option is warranted not to knock the guy but to be aware of the possibilities of a response in other circumstances that those here may get involved in. It worked out for this guy and I'm very happy. Someone here may get the idea that it's 100% the way to react and end up in jail because of what they read. That is what I am speaking to.
