Do auctions make people lose sense?

Or maybe it's just me.

Went to a City of Converse auction which had about a dozen firearms (which, of course, they auctioned last).
(All prices are as I remember, so with probably within $5 or so.)

The first up was a well used Astra .357. Went for $225. Not too bad i guess.
A Locrin L22 - $80??? First of all, it's a Locrin. Second, well, it's a Locrin.*
A well used Sigma 9mm - $250???? Come on, you can get new model for $320, $260 with the frequent sales. Oh, it had four mags. I guess that was it.
A Cobra CA-380 - $85??? See Locrin.*
A Cobra CA-32 - $80??? See Locrin.*
Forget what the Tarus PT111 went for
An old, very used Rohm 66. Missing the .22 mag cylinder. This is the one I actually went for. Just for grins and plinking around. Figured $50-60 at the most. $125!!!!!!!!

I left. I thought what they went for was high but maybe I just don't know prices that well even though I researched most of the pistols.

*Maybe I'm mistaken but I've never heard anything good about these pistols.

I think a Sigma sold for $250 last week in this forum.

Yep.
"For sale, a SW9VE, 9mm S&W Sigma. The gun has about 300 rounds through it, not one FTF or FTE. Comes with three 16 round mags. Never carried, so it's as scratch free as the day it was new. $250 firm."
Barely broken in is a little different than well used.

That would be a difference. This one was definitely not any where near new condition.

Definitely some folks lose their ability to act rationally. I saw a cap on E-bay sell for $48 plus $5 shipping that can be bought from the logo company website for $19.50 plus $7.50 shipping. In fact I bought one. The cap was at 26 dollars on Ebay when I went to the website to buy mine. I checked today and the Ebay cap sold for the $48 I mentioned.

It's LORCIN, not LOCRIN.

And, yeah, they're crap.

Maybe it was a counterfeit copy of a Lorcin, like the counterfeit watches with slightly misspelled names I used to see in the souks overseas. Which would make it an even worse deal.

Not to mention make the counterfeiter crazy. Who'd want to counterfeit something so awful?

:iagree: I bought a Lorcin .380 from my brother a few years back for $100. Thought I was getting a great deal...I can't hit the broadside of a barn standing three feet away and that's NOT an exageration! Something definately wrong with them guns. :grumble

A Locrin L22 - $80???
Great news! I have a Lorcin 22 that I will let go for for the below market price of only $70. First come, first served.

Yes, people can easily get carried away during an auction.

It's not just gun auctions. I have seen the same thing on eBay and even at live auctions. I went to an auction and was bidding on an item for my wife. My sister-in-law decided I wasn't bidding properly and started bidding on the item to make sure her sister got it. I tired to stop her, but she ignored me until the auctioneer asked 'Aren't you with the gentleman right there?' pointing at me. She said 'Yes'. The auctioneer then said 'Well, if you want to out bid him I will accept your bid, otherwise he already has the highest bid'. :smilelol5:

The purpose of an auction is to get the highest price for the seller using techniques refined over centuries.
