I was at the candy store today, aka Gt's... 5-11 now has a "covert hoodie."

I've heard that back in the day, you could get nice looking "Hoddies" for a lot less, but you had to watch out for undercover operations

I like hoodies so I may look at picking this one up but the 5.11 logo emblazoned in ORANGE on the shoulder is not so covert.

Whenever I see 5.11 clothing outside of a training environment I immediately think "mall ninja"

Yup. Read a good article written by an El Paso trainer talking about all the "tacticool" people out there running around looking the part and not even carrying their off duty guns

I have sort of the opposite? orthogonal? view...when I see people in the "training environment" wearing their battle gear and/or their tactical britches and boots and OWB holsters so forth, but in everyday life they wear Dockers and loafers and concealed holsters (maybe?)...or in combatives-type training they are wearing gym shorts and a t-shirt and mat shoes, when again in "real life" they wear jeans and boots and longsleeve shirts... then I think....I dunno, range ninja? We typically practice with street clothes, and I just use older sets in case I tear them up. I even gave up magazine holders, especially for my rifle. On the slim chance that I ever pick up my rifle for real, I don't anticipate I will have time to strap on bags or chest rigs or belts - I will shove a spare mag or two in my back pockets, so that's how I train with my rifle. Happily have a job and environment where I can wear 5.11 britches, which I find it handy to do so for lots of reasons, so they became my casual pants of choice.
Not into hoodies, tho, and the 5.11 logo on the front and the back does kind of mitigate the 'covertness'.

All the same, it's a pretty nice Hoddie.

Does the average person know the difference between 5.11 and 911?

Why not wear similar clothing to what you train in?
When I was working overseas I was issued about 20 pairs of 5.11 Taclite pants and shorts, a bunch of 5.11 shirts, 5.11 backpack and a bunch of their other stuff. It all gets regular use. Their core gear is great, even if they have some junk on the fringes...
Surprising that so many people still have a negative view of their gear, considering how good some of it is.
ETA: That hoddie doesn't look bad, but I prefer zip ups.

5-11 gear is good but expensive. Had to laugh at them making a tactical hoodie.... I am wearing some 5-11 pants right now

. I only wear them for work and training. They are part of the clothing we have to wear for an off duty gig I work. However I don't run around off duty trying to look tacticool. The article I mentioned talked about how people run around wearing that trying to look a part, yet go unarmed which puts them at risk. Personally I want to blend in, which never works since I get made as a leo pretty much wherever I go

. I guess I've been doing it to long. I spent over 200 on 5-11 gear the other day but they woudn't give me a free one because it was with a purchase order
