My three oldest sons have approached me with the desire to buy my wife the Browning Hi-Power she wants as a Mother's Day Gift.

We desire a 80s-90s mark III (she used to have a National Match)

Our budget is Approx $600.

Is there some kind soul out there with a neglected Browning they are willing to part with for this amount? I assure you it will get lots of love, attention and exercise.

It is a 9mm, 4 5/8 Barrel, Roll Stamped Made in Belgium assembled in Portugal on Right Side of Slide, It has been Fired Very Little, that comes with Browning Wood Grips and 2 Factory 13 rd. Mag. The Original Finish is High Polish with the Condition of this 20 Year Old Pistol being *EXCELLENT*. Sorry No Box/Papers. My gunsmith has rated this pistol a 96. I replaced the slide stop / release lever with a Pachmayr. This was a great improvement. Adjustable sights and it’s as accurate as you are. The MkIII HP your wife wants is, IMHO, the best HP for either carry or extensive shooting. Basic, no-frills, fixed sights, it's the basis of one of my "carry" guns.

I don't particularly like the adjustable-sighted HPs because the front sight is a weakness - the dovetail is the same size as for the (much) smaller fixed sight blade, but the added height needed to work with the high rear sight adds several times the mass, leading to failures at the dovetail.

Bluntly, the front sight has a tendency to break off.

I've seen a couple of HPs with this malady - one happened to another shooter on my squad during an IDPA match.

(BTW, I agree that the Browning guns seem to be "nicer" than the FN guns. Considering who makes both, they shouldn't be, but they are.)
