Anybody partake in the relaxing activity of backpacking?

I just spent a few days in Hill Country SNA. Now, I'm looking for a new park or trail to hit and am open to suggestions!

I used to backpack a while ago (college days). My husband and I are trying to get back into it. It is an expensive prospect when one has four kids to get sacks, back packs, and emergency stuff for. But I live in VA, not TX. I hope you find someone to go along with you.

Yeah, it is expensive enough for myself. I can not imagine trying to outfit a family. My wife is not really into it so she watches the kids while I go so it all works out in the end.

I grew up in TN where trails were aplenty but they seem hard to come by in Central Texas, at least decent ones.

Someday I'll make it through the VA portion of the Appalachian Trail. Until then I need to find local stuff or atleast semi local

Me too, but then I got old.

I have a Crosman 2289 Backpacker with a Simmons .22 Mag scope on it. It is a hoot to shoot.

Take the train out of Durango, Co. Get off at the stop half way. Take the trail. Its a Summer hike.

Fly to the big island Hawaii. North out of Hilo to the Waipo Road. Park at the Waipo Valley Lookout. Hike to the next valley. Year round.

My BIL likes to go to Enchanted Rock. Mostly for rock climbing, but they have backpacking as well. I noticed on their website that there are some dates that have closed areas for hunting.

Occasionally. I'm trying to get back to the mountains this summer and take my daughter. It's been several years since I went into the Rio Grande National Forrest in CO for a week. We're going to try and get into the mountains in northern NM with some other friends for about a week.

Lost Maples state park has some nice trails. backpacked in there for our Honeymoon,in 97

It's hard to do "backpacking" here, there's really no long trails. On a 3-day weekend I'd like to cover about 30 miles, stopping a different site each night. Big Bend is the only place on my side (San Antonio) of the state. Sam Houston and others on the eastern side.

Appalachian Trail, Continental Divide, Pacific Coast. We need one from Brownsville to International Falls.

I don't go anywhere in south or west texas w/o an AR these days.

Yeah, I've noticed.

I'm in the same boat in regards to preferring a 10-15 mile capability per day with different sites every night. I had to settle on Hill Country SNA last time because it sort of offered those opportunities, granted I had to backtrack on some trails a bit.

My next venture out of state will probably be to Rocky Mountain NP. Never been to CO specifically but everything I've seen, it looks absolutely amazing.

The Appalachian Trail begins in Georgia and ends in Maine or somewhere up there.
