Fifth Grader Suspended for Invisible Weapon

This wasn't even in the evil shape of a real pop-tart gun. We are Crazy...

The fifth grader was disciplined at South Eastern Middle School-West, in Fawn Grove, in October, where Principal Jon Horton categorized Johnny’s actions as threatening: playfully using his hands to draw the bowstring on an imaginary bow to “shoot” an arrow at his friend, who had pretended to shoot him with a pencil, according to Whitehead. Horton then suspended both boys for violating the school’s code of conduct, which bans weapons, including any “replica” or “look-alike.” (The parents of the second boy, Whitehead explains, are not fighting the school.)

“He’s got a weapons charge — it’s crazy,” notes John Whitehead, lead attorney and founder of the Virginia-based organization, which sent a letter to South Eastern School District Superintendent Rona Kaufmann on Dec. 4. The letter calls the school’s action “ludicrous,” asking Kaufmann to remove the charge from Johnny’s permanent record and rescind his one-day suspension; it gives the school until Dec.13 to respond.

And why aren't the school board meetings deluged with parents over this type of stupid? That is where these idiot policies can be changed.

From my observations, air headed school boards get elected and reelected by their air headed constituents whom seem to be the majority nowadays. The example I would offer to prove my point is the Beaumont ISD the FBI and the TEA are both investigating them and they still carry on like nothing is wrong. :banghead:

This type of madness, among other things, like poor quality teaching and skewed history is why my Granddaughters are home schooled.

I find it disgusting that actual violence in public schools IS tolerated, but invisible weapons are considered a threat.

Where do you get the idea that "actual violence in public schools IS tolerated"?

Specifics, please.

Because the parents are busy demanding meetings with the principal to ask what's being done about this aggressive and mentally disturbed child who would PRETEND TO HAVE WEAPONS at school. Can we expel him? Can we put his parents in jail? Can we install metal detectors? What are you doing to protect my precious little angel from dangerous children like this?!

Recently saw it in another (non-gun-related forum) I participate in. The mother was all upset because there was a child in her child's class (early elementary) who had made a gun finger at the teacher once and he was clearly disturbed and violent and she couldn't understand why her child was still in a class with this menace to society. Don't get me wrong: if I heard that my son had pretend to shoot his teacher, he would be in a boatload of trouble. But it would be about disrespect and a bad attitude, not my fear that he had a plan to shoot up the school.

What he fears, he explains, is that “we’re teaching these kids to put their heads down and to be afraid of authority all the time.”
That is the real message here. Guns, even imaginary ones, are only the vehicle. This is just public subjugation under the guise of education.

Perhaps the imaginary weapons go along with the imaginary grades that many schools hand out these days....

The silly thing about that is there are probably a handful of bullies also in that kids class who would beat up her kid at the drop of a hat, but know how to stay out of trouble.
