So here's a question, why did the NEW YORK Police Department even produce a separate report on a terrorist attack in Nairobi, Kenya? I read NYPD had run some counter-terrorism training simulations based on that incident, and that seems a logical training scenario for that department. But why the separate conflicting report? I realize NYPD is huge and has a unique role, but it is still a LOCAL MUNICIPAL PD, not an alternate Federal government alphabet soup counter-terror analysis agency. If I was a NY taxpayer (NEVER) I'd be questioning why my tax dollars are paying for such things the same as I would question why Bloomberg's NYPD goon squad was investigating gun shows in Arizona.

But then again I'm not a lemming like much of the NYC population.

Texas gets a lot of flak for the whole cessation thing. But I don't see HPD, DPD, or even DPS wasting time investigating specific terrorist attacks in other countries. It's like NYPD thinks it's a separate, autonomous worldwide law enforcement agency representing a sovereign Yankee nation.

Maybe instead of encouraging Texas to leave we should be encouraging NYC to leave the US (and take Chicago, Newark, Detrout, San Fran, and SoCal with you.

If members of the NYPD Joint Terrorism Task Force JTTF or intelligence officers felt compelled to do an investigation to learn from it, I personally don't see anything wrong with that. IMO knowledge is power and with these new threats local agencies need to have data on the actions taken to better prepare for the inevitable. Those attacks are investigated and information is disseminated through the Fusion centers which are made up of local, state and federal agencies. This NYPD 'investigation' is basically a report off public info. I'd be curious to read it vs a news beep on the article. Afterall, we all know the State Dept tells the truth about everything... just look at Bengazi.

Good points. I'm all for NYPD learning from the event as training/prep. And perhaps I'm just reading too much into the news report and/or the media and/or Kenyans are purposely making more out of it because if its "conclusion".

Seems a fine line between training/prep that NYPD should be doing vs more global terror analysis typically undertaken by Feds. Just seems strange that the "conclusion" of a not-directly-involved PD report would so ruffle the feathers of both US and Kenyan governments. Perhaps your Benghazi analogy isn't far off the mark.

Funny this thread should come up. I was in Minneapolis this week and went to Mall of America one evening to look around at it occurred to me that most Somalian immigrants are settling in Minnesota. In my mind it's possible that the Kenya mall attack may have been a dry run to attack Mall of America, as it has come out that many of these Minnesotan Somalis are returning to their home country to receive terror training from al Shabaab and then being allowed back in (not on purpose but due to lax intelligence a la the Tsarnaev brothers). When you walk in to Mall of America there is a legally binding gun buster sign. In fact, guns are not allowed in shopping malls per state law. Further research indicates that apparently at any one time there are a several dozen armed agents roaming the mall undercover as shoppers. Still, there was no apparent security visible and this was running through my mind the entire time I was in the mall.

NYPD is special, that's where the UN is located.
