I wan to pass on a link to an article that I found very encouraging. It is from a Christian point of view so if that will bother you..,pass on by.

The gist of the article is that we fight for what is right, not because we are guaranteed victory, but because it is right to do so.

I am not trying to start a debate, but simply to pass on a good word. I found it a great comfort I hope you will too.

I really tried to read that, but I just couldn't plow my way through it. I've never had any interest in Tolkein's stuff, haven't watched any of the many films, and have no desire to learn more about it. There must be something in Tolkein's thinking that fascinates people or the movies would do so well, but I just don't get it.

For a Tolkien lover it was really beautiful. But of course just like I don't like Steven king, not everyone will like Tolkien. That's fine of course. Just trying to pass on a good word.

If you cannot get through the books, you won't understand. I started by reading the Hobbit and think that that helped me a lot before I started reading the trilogy LOTR. I felt that the movies, while well done, didn't hit the same vein as the books themselves.

I'm into the 3rd book of the Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins. There are some parallels in that both writers put you into an unlikely environment that is hard, at least at first, to imagine. Part of the charm is trying to imagine in your minds eye the word picture that is being painted for you. Harry Potter is a bit the same but both the Tolkien and Collins stories are more complex and agreeably harder to imagine.

I have a bunch of other thoughts about the OP article but going down that path would likely violate forum rules.

Yes, and I don't understand the attitude of those who effectively say that when the odds are against you it's pointless to fight. There are some things you stand up to and you don't back down, surrender, or give in to because you might get hurt or you're not likely to win. Nobody lives forever.
