Most concerning part of the article to me.

I don't know, with the inevitable lawsuit from the BG's family, I'd proffer a San Francisco jury would say the the victim was 60% at fault for having his/her face in the way of the bullet and award damages accordingly.

Nope the victim was black as were the two shooters. Now if the victim was white or has enough money ......

It can. Bullets do weird things in the human body. It's all anecdotal, of course, but I know of stories where someone got hit in the head with a .357 and had a couple skin lesions and nothing worse, a dude that took a shell of buckshot to the chest and got back up to surrender "because that hurt," and a crook that got hit five times center mass with a .357 and survived. I also know of a cop that got shot with a .22 and died right there, and knew a guy directly that almost died as a teen because someone shot him in the leg (!) with a .25 and clipped a major blood vessel. There was that fairly well publicized story out of Iraq several years ago of the soldier that was shot in the head at point-blank range with a 9mm, spat the bullet and a couple tooth fragments out his mouth, then proceeded to grab his attacker and "restrain" him physically.

Bullets do weird things.

Good Story. One less criminal thug to worry about. Would be nice to know the bullet type, caliber and handgun model.

This is true, and generally the smaller and less energetic the round, the stranger things it will do.

I've seen a case where someone shot in the forehead had the bullet travel around the skull just under the skin and exit the back of the head with no serious damage at all.

I've also seen someone shot square between the eyes with a .25 or .32 with the bullet lodging about 2 1/2 inches into the head. I don't know the caliber because the docs decided not to remove it. All the victim needed was a bandaid and antibiotics. When I asked the doc about brain damage, he said of course there was some, but the bullet didn't hit anything that particular individual was apparently using anyway in light of the circumstances of the shooting.
