Two men have been arrested and charged in connection with the shooting of a Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Game Warden earlier this week.

Eli Stephens, 18, and Dalton Haddix, 21, both of Illinois were booked into the Delta County Jail in Cooper according to the Texas Parks & Wildlife.

Stephens has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Haddix was charged with failure to report a felony.

According to the Texas Parks & Wildlife the two men came to Texas for the holidays.

Off-duty game warden Chris Fried, 31, of Cooper had been bow hunting when he saw that he believed to be illegal hunting activity on state property and went to investigate according to the Texas Parks & Wildlife.

Fried was shot with a high-powered rifle, the bullet entered his right shoulder and lodged in his chest. The Texas Parks & Wildlife says Fried yelled "you shot me" but no one responded or came to his aid. He used his cell phone to call for help.

Investigators determined the shot came from private property adjacent to the Cooper Wildlife Management Area.

Fried remains in stable condition in the intensive care unit at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas.

The arrests come after an investigation by Texas Parks & Wildlife Game Wardens, Texas Rangers and deputies with the Delta County Sheriff's Department.

The article didn't state one way or the other if this young man was recklessly shooting without a backstop and unknowingly hit the warden, or if he intentionally and knowingly aimed at and shot the warden.

Both are serious crimes that need to be punished. However, I am OK with hanging someone who deliberately shoots an LEO, but I am not OK with hanging someone who unknowingly and negligently shoots an LEO. It all boils down to intentionally versus knowingly versus recklessly. Are you OK with a hanging for a recklessly negligent shoot?

Wish the idiots would stay up north and hope the game warden recovers fully.

I think every crime should result in hanging. It sure would cut down on speeders. :biggrinjester:
