What is this fascination noobs have with resurrecting threads 0ver 6 years old?
Makes me seriously look at the thread origin date before opening unread posts.

It is not the age of the thread that interests them. They join, start reading threads and just see something on which they wish to comment. They don't even pay attention to the dates.

If you are a noob, thirsty for info, and then you stumble across a treasure trove like these forums. You start reading, suddenly you are 10 pages back in the forum and hit reply to something that is ancient.

It is good they use the search feature. Why bust their chops when they are successful in finding what they are looking for and commenting?
Now if they are doing it with stupid unrelated comments, that's different.

Agree. Search is good. Not busting chops, just thought it was.....different.

This.
Sometimes when we see this the new member may be a spammer or even a troll, but usually it is jut they have found the forum full of information that is highly valuable. They comment on something that may be old news to us, but new to them. It freqeuently is of great value in dusting the cobwebs off of a topic and giving us a refresher in the discussion and your investment in item of discussion.

Sometimes I have even learned something new from myself!
A necro thread gets a new post, I am merrily reading along, and suddenly find myself reading something I wrote 2-3 years ago and had totally forgotten I knew anything about it, much less had written about it!

Just think for a minute. For a noobe on here all of the information is like pouring 10 gallons of water into a 5 gallon bucket. Some overflows and has to be released. Thats what they are doing is releasing information.

I mean come on......how many different topics could one create on a forum?
Either we're beating a dead horse or we're resurrecting threads....nothing new under the sun.

I disagree. I would much rather see a person read the old topic and then weigh in with their quesitons or views vs a totally new thread being created and people have to post their views and input again. That helps the new member by consolodating any new material or views and the Mods by not having to look over the new posts that have actually already been posted before.

I know...that's what I mean. I was being sarcastic

but there isn't a sarcastic smiley.

Some things bear repeating. No better way to repeat than to bring the actual information back to light.
