A Universal Truth?

While sitting outside at a cafe enjoying Springtime, I may have discovered a universal truth. The evidence around me is overwhelming. As a diverse and learned group, I would like to use you as a sounding board to either confirm my theory or refute the universality of my observations to expose selection bias or other flaws..

Here it is:

The intelligence level of a public conversation is inversely proportional to the volume level.

Maybe not a universal truth, but probably a high correlation.

Maybe a corollary to your theory: Intelligent people don't feel the need to broadcast their ignorance.

Or "it is better for people to think you are stupid than to open your mouth and prove it."

As someone who finally had to close her bedroom window at 11:40 last night to avoid hearing her neighbor two doors down and across the street monologing about dating advice and eHarmony and so on... I AGREE! :grumble

Probably true. Also, those that talk loud, laugh loud in public places are probably impressed with their own stupidity? and expect others to agree with their behavior. Same applies to very loud music...just because "you" like it doesn't mean that "we" like it.

On a sidebar, "Is it legal to shoot a loud radio or stereo even if it is not yours...especially applies to those Neanderthals who play loud rap stuff going down the street (or parked in a "nice" public area).

Only if the "music" can inflict great bodily harm.

Another truth is, as emotions rise, intelligents declines.

Or, as my mother taught me: "It is better to remain silent and thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt."

My father, Abraham Lincoln, taught me the same thing. :smilelol5:
