Guns kill. So when guns are banned and unavailable, murder does not exist.
Mass murder also does not happen because only guns have the potential for mass killing.
Defending yourself by using violence, is abhorrent in a civilized society.
It is better to die than than to lower yourself to the level of using violence in the defense of your life.
Violent criminals can be rehabilitated. It is illegal to harm criminals in the commission of their crimes as this harms their rehabilitation.

Victims are four men and a woman, all in their early 20's.
The Calgary police have someone in custody, apparently the son of a senior Police official. He's now being treated for dog bites, courtesy of some police dogs.

Hanson said the suspect came to the party straight from his job at a grocery store armed with a weapon,
Alcohol is not believed to have been a factor in the attack.
Some people are just plain crazy, no Alcohol needed.

The only increase has been in publicity and dread.
The reason why the rampant misimpression about a raging epidemic in active shooters matters so greatly is in how it drives public opinion and public policy on guns, mental health and security. Excessive alarm, fueled by misleading news reports, leads to knee-jerk responses that are not necessarily for the best
Some honesty here, in spite of the fact that the last paragraph of the article is tinged with anti-gun sentiment.

This line of thinking evokes a very visceral and negative reaction in me. It is contrary to the very nature of survival and I cannot begin to even comprehend it. Especially those that consider it morally superior to have their family tortured and killed over shooting the badguys themselves.
