Glock Decisions

I've got my GSSF pistol purchase coupon burning a hole in my pocket. I've already got a G23 and a M&P40 and I've been thinking about diversifying into a 9mm. Any recommendations from someone that has shot both a G17 and G19? I'm also thinking if I don't go 9mm, the G22 might be my choice. Any thoughts?

If you go with the G19 all of your G23 holsters will work with the G19.

If you want a G22 you have more options at lower prices than the GSSF coupon. There are a lot of G22 3rd gen police trade-ins available for $360sh. Summit Gun broker had a sale a couple of months ago, may still be on. If you have to use the ticket the G19 but don't mix up the mags with your G23. The G19 does everything the G17 does in just a more compact size. The holster is a minor factor because many holsters will fit both G17/G19/G23. Some barrel may protrude of a G17/G22 in a G23 holster.

Many of the holsters that I have for my 23 and 19 have tapered or closed bottoms for retention purposes. Those holsters will not work with the 17.

If they are KYDEX then that is an easy fix. Just trim off or heat up the bottom and re-form the taper. BTW....the taper is not for retention but to help protect the muzzle end of the gun. The only way it helps with retention is if the muzzle sticks out it can get bumped and dislodge the gun n the holster. Not a huge problem but can happen if you are not careful

That is one thought that I am considering, but not a deal breaker for me.

I agree that I might be able to get a G22 lower used. Good tip on the mags.

I do like the .40, but am thinking about something with less kick.

Primarily, I think I'm looking for an easy shooter with less recoil than the .40, which is why I'm gravitating to the 9mm. I love my G23, and my wife and 15 year old son have shot it, but I was thinking that a 9mm might be easier for them to handle, thus more enjoyable. The G23 and G19 are identical in size, so that would be an easy fit since they both were comfortable with the grip on the G23. (I guess I probably should have said all that in the initial post. )

I appreciate all the comments so far.

I colorcode the basepads of glock mags so that 9mm are one color & 40 are another. That way you can quickly tell what calibre a mag is.

I'd use the coupon for a G17.

I have more time behind my G17, and I shoot it noticeably better. Same with the G34, so I think it is frame size. dont know why, but both do better for me than the 19, but I am working with it to get it up to par.

You can always go with another .40 Glock, and spend ~$100 on a 9mm bbl for the gun of choice. Its not ideal, but you can use the .40 mags, at least for range time. And KCI mags are cheap enough in 9mm, if you didnt want to spring for OEM mags.
