CHL-100 good for?

I know we were told at my instructor class and I confirmed again at the renewal class that the CHL-100 is good for 2 yrs. I just want to confirm this again. Local ranges keep telling people that paperwork is only good for a year. I know once you apply online that is only good for a year. I cannot find this anywhere on DPS website this info. Please back me up.

The CHL100 is valid for 2 years from date of issue. See the Texas Administrative Code. Gimme a minute and I will get you a link/source.

My understanding is the same as what you stated. And have had students apply well beyond 1 year with zero negative feedback that I know of on the issue from DPS.

Y'all are awesome!!!!! Thank you for your help. Another instructor just told me one of her students called DPS and they told him it was only good for 1 yr too. I get so tired of misinformation getting spread.

To be fair, we have no idea what the student actually asked.

Or, what DPS actually answered!

Or if they even called at all.

Or we could all be "brains in a pan", and none of this is real.

I think much of the confusion comes from the fact
that the CHL-100 from our class is good for two years.
The online application through DPS is good for one year.

You can apply online, pay online, and your 1 year to get the required documents submitted starts from that date. The 90 days is only if DPS comes back and says that they need more info on something.
Example: You apply online, and don't take the class for 6 months. That's ok, because you have 1 year from date of application/payment to submit required paperwork.
Example: You apply online, and don't take the class for 6 months. You finally take the class, and submit your CHL-100. But you forgot about an arrest when you applied 6 moths ago, and DPS sends you a letter saying get them the report. You have 90 days to comply.
CHL-16 says:
DPS has 30 days after it receives a complete application (complete = all required documents submitted) to get application & materials to it's geographical designee to commence background investigation.
Designee has 60 days to get approval/disapproval recommendation back to Austin.
Austin has 60 days to further investigation.
If DPS cannot make a decision by this time, DPS notifies the applicant that an additional 30 days is needed.
No approval after the additional 30 days constitutes denial.
So DPS has to give a decision within 180 days.
I cannot find where the CHL-16 addresses the amount of time the applicant has to furnish additional information requested. But in my instructor notes, I specifically wrote "Applicants have 90 days from date of DPS request (for further information) to get DPS the information." My math would say that the 90 days = the 60 day further investigation period plus the 30 day "need more time" period. But again, I can't readily find this 90-day applicant response time in the CHL-16.

Your timeline is off somewhat, and you forgot to specifically address the CHL100.
He can take a class today and apply online two years later.

I was addressing SuperChief's post, I just forgot to quote him. Timeline was taken directly from the CHL-16, so I'm not sure what is 'somewhat off'. Other than, yes, the CHL-100 is good for two years, and yes, he can wait two years to apply after taking the class. But the application is what starts the DPS timeline.
