I thought about picking up the latest copy of Combat Handguns magazine yesterday and scanned the front cover for contents. Every gun test listed was a .45 cal. I have nothing against .45s, they're just not my cup of tea, especially 1911 types. Is this getting to be trend with CH, or has this generally been their focus all along? I occassionally pick up a copy and haven't noticed this before. While on the subject, what's your favorite firearms related magazine?

I like American Handgunner for the nice photos and Ayoob's case histories recounted in "The Ayoob Files" columns.

Combat Handguns is another favorite, mostly because of Ayoob's "Self Defense and the Law" column and the "It Happened to Me" section where readers write about defensive situations they have been personally involved in.

I don't much bother reading gun test type articles these days since after a while they all pretty much read the same. I get Gun Test magazine for completely unbiased reports on various guns new and old.

Then again, I pretty much have all the guns I want. Someday I might add a Para LDA type to the collection if I can ever make up my mind whether to get a compact one as an ultimate carry piece or a full sized one to use as a bullseye gun. (I love that rolling almost revolver-like trigger for bullseye. No sharp break = reduced or no flinch.)

I get guns and ammo because I got a free subscription, and renewal is dirt cheap. They never saw a gun they didn't like.
Recently they had an article saying how wonderful 9MM are.. at the end of the article they had to tell how wonderful .45 are ... They are just so afraid of offending that they are just flaverless pablum with no character at all.. Most gun mags today are like this I guess.

I like Handloader, Rifle. and American Rifleman . . . I still get American Handgunner just out of habit, and once in a while I'll subscribe to Guns for a year, when they get around to offering me a subscription for around $10.

One of the other gun rags lost me completely when they had a "test" in which they tried numerous solvents, oils, and greases to determine which ones were best at preventing corrosion. They spend pages describing their evaluation, put in pictures, detailed their testing protocols . . . so I figured the conclusion would be interesting and useful.

What was it? Generally, greases worked better than oils, and oils better than solvents.

ACTUAL RESULTS WERE NOT INCLUDED!!! Clearly, they decided they did NOT want to offend ANY of their advertisers. I have to agree with:
