I'm new to the site and to concealed carry and I've already found this site to be a wealth of information. My family is going to be traveling to Dallas this week, and I'm hoping you all can help me out with some info on which locations are posted or non-posted. We will probably be hitting up quite a few of the touristy spots. Some of the places we may visit are the Perot Museum of Nature and Science, the State Fair, The Dallas Aquarium, Heritage Village, and the Old Red Museum.

We will likely spend some time on the DART light rail and buses,(parking in the DART park and ride lots) and some time wandering around downtown on foot/DART- Maybe see Thanksgiving square, the cattle sculptures, that pointed blue green building with the cool fountains, etc. I've heard there are good food trucks at or near Klyde Warren Park where we can stop to eat.

We might also make a trip to Ft. Worth to check out the Stockyards and see what might be of interest there. And we will probably take a drive through DFW airport and watch some planes fly over. I understand there is a park there, Founders' Park, set up for this.

I know the State Fair allows CHL, and it is my understanding that the security guard will direct CHL holders to a nearby police officer for admittance. I know they could always make a change in the set up this year vs. previous years, but I will have my kids with me and wonder how far the wanding is from the police officer checking CHLs. I don't want to be out of sight of my kids.

I'm guessing that DART is city or county owned, so they are not posted. Am I right on this?

Any tips on any of these places being posted or having metal detectors is greatly appreciated. Since we will be using DART much of the time, we won't have an option to just go back to the car and lock up our guns. We will have other family with us part of the time, so I don't want the CHL to end up being a problem with the places we plan to go. Also, if anyone knows of great places to take my boys (ages 10-14) feel free to chime in.

I have personally carried on DART and in the Dallas World Aquarium, both within the last year, and neither is posted (my understanding is also that DART is city-run). The Dallas Arboretum is also not posted, if that ends up on your list of destinations. You didn't mention the presidential museum, so that may not be on your itinerary, but if you visit there it's federal so no carry. Not sure about the rest, but try texas3006.com.

Thanks for the replies. I should have clarified about the Perot Museum. I saw on the 3006 website that the museum on 2nd ave. is posted, but we were planning on going to the one at 2201 N. Field Street. Keith B, is it the Field St. or 2nd street location that you know to be posted, or both?

I'm glad to know that the Aquarium isn't posted, as that one is high on the list of possibilities if we don't run out of time and money.

Thanks, TacShot. I have joined texas3006 and checked out their listings. Except for the 2nd st. location of the Perot museum, I didn't see any of the places listed. Hopefully someone will reply if they know whether or not the Field St. location is posted. That is likely to be our first stop.

It's not listed as the "Perot" Museum of Nature and Science just the Museum of Nature and Science. http://www.perotmuseum.org/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; shows that the new one did not open until Dec. of 2012. The comments on the 3006 site were all prior to that, so they must be referring to the Fair Park location. Above Keith B posted that the Perot Museum is posted, but I'm not sure which one he is referring to. Hopefully someone in the know will help us out.

I was at the Perot Musuem a couple months back and I did not see a valid 30.06 sign anywhere. On the side of the building where the glass window to the kids building center was it did state no guns allowed but we know what that means.

I'm glad to hear it wasn't posted. Thanks for letting us know. And that Spirits Texas app is a great find. We don't go to bars, but when we're traveling we might not be able to tell a non 51% restaurant with a bar in it from a 51% location. This will help us avoid that problem.
