This was a survey conducted in conjunction with the National Shooting Sports Foundation, and the report was released earlier this summer. I haven't seen it posted here, and thought some would find it interesting. The report is a PDF file 4.3MB in size:

Some takeaways:

• IDPA membership grew almost 70% from 2008 through 2013
• 90.9% are White/Caucasian (needs to change)
• 96% are male (needs to change)
• Average age is 51 (we need younger shooters)
• 87.2% own their home
• 35% graduated college
• 73% work full-time (40 hours per week or more)
• 60% are employed in technical, professional, or management occupations
• Average household income is $101,579 per year (21% did not answer); the median U.S. household income for 2012 was $51,371
• 57.9% said they shot IDPA to improve self-defense skills; 30.8% said it was for the competition; 66% of female respondents said participation was to improve self-defense skills
• 26.8% will participate in 11 to 20 matches per year; 27.4% in 6 to 10 matches; 21.3% in one to five matches; 3% will shoot 51 or more matches
• 89% have a concealed carry license; 2% are waiting for their licenses
• 14% are concealed carry instructors in their states
• 31.4% participate in no other shooting sports; 31% shoot USPA; 27.4% shoot Steel Challenge
• The average respondent spent $1,581 on IDPA shooting equipment in 2013
• 92% own at least one handgun specifically for concealed carry
• 92% also own at least one rifle; 86% own at least one shotgun
• More than six in 10 respondents indicated that they reload ammunition, primarily for handgun and rifle; a smaller percentage of participants also reload for shotgun
• IDPA members in the U.S. alone spend upwards of $30 million annually on the sport
• More than seven in 10 respondents are members of a shooting range and pay an average annual membership fee of $163
