My net worth is not 25K so sure dont have that kind of disposable income. I would want to see the documentation before I even bid.

I'm not the interested collector, but there is one out there I'm sure.

That's kind of creepy. Hopefully some museum will buy it and take it out of circulation.

Seems odd that the scuffed forend appears to be the only damage on it, considering the end of the incident.

I can't imagine a firearms museum with a pro-RKBA stance that would want to put that on display.

I always thought this would be locked up in some hidden corner of any evidence room... Or on the wall of some retired politician who received it as a gift (or simply took it).

Of all possible scenarios I could imagine, I never figured that it would be returned to Whitman's estate.

Do all evil criminals get their tools of destruction back when the smoke clears? If that posting is true, I hope some family member takes it back.

How could this really be THE rifle? Wouldn't THE rifle still be locked up somewhere or under glass or destroyed already? I'm highly skeptical that this would be THE rifle.

Maybe the NRA should buy it. They could put it on display with a plaque that says something like:

This is the rifle that was used in "The most Savage one man rampage in the history of american crime."
You will notice that it is neither an "assault weapon" nor even a semi automatic rifle.

I believe in God and therefore take His word that demons exist. I'd be worried about same being attached to or following a weapon like that.

Documentation: Aren't court records mostly public? A comparison between the serials of the auctioned rifle and the evidence inventory should clear up any reasonable doubt.

According to the article in the Houston Chronicle yesterday, the serial number is correct.

I'm not buying it.. The story or the rifle.
