Ruger LC9s magazine releasing on its own

I'm noticing a trend with my fairly new LC9s of the magazine apparently releasing without me pushing the mag release. The first time it happened, I thought it was a on-off situation however it has happened two or three more times. Now I'm always checking whenever I pull the gun from its holster

. Anybody heard about this issue? I think I should call Ruger next week and get their take on this.
Now I don't feel like I can 100% trust my LC9s.

Never had any inadvertent mag releases on my old lc9. I sure wish that gun had worked out for me...heartbreaker!

Not sure what holster you are using, but is there anyway you could modify it to relieve pressure on the release? I had to do that on a couple of holsters I had for my M&P compact that I used to have.

Holster interference was the first thing I thought of but my IWB and OWB holsters don't cover the mag release, so ???

If it is particularly hard to seat, perhaps the times it was jarred loose it simply wasn't fully seated making it a "hair release?" Could be irregularities in a mag where it mates to your release? May try marking your mags to see if this issue is related to a particular magazine.

Good idea. I just tried seating and unseating the seven round mag and then my extended nine round mag and the 'click' felt different. I'm going to carry the gun with the extended mag for a couple of weeks to see if I have the same issue. Now I'm wondering if there isn't something wrong with that mag.

Definitely a strong candidate. If you have a small file, may want to run it on the inside of that hole in that mag, may be able to get a more positive "snap."

Owned one two years ago with the same issue. Realized two things. First, the mags didn't seat as well as I would have liked. Second, the way I naturally gripped the gun had me pressing the release button, and with the mags not well seated, they released very easily. Tried to work around it for three months, but couldn't get past it so I traded it off, and was much happier. Got a dandy little Sig that makes me smile every time I look at it.

Test results with the extended magazine (9 rounds) vs. the seven round standard magazine: to my great surprise I discovered the nine-round magazine was releasing occasionally when unholstering, I switched back to the seven round and I think I now know what's going on. (The mag release isn't involved I'm almost certain.)
If I pull on the mag finger extension (levering the bottom of the magazine to the rear of the handgrip) the magazine will release. Something isn't right with the mag catch so I'm going to send the gun to Ruger and let them check it out. Really disappointed

We've back home from our summer escape, called Ruger a while ago and explained the problem to the helpful lady on the phone. She said it is probably the magazine latch, I asked if this was a known problem and she said they have had it happen on some LC9s's. So, my LC9s gets sent off to Ruger tomorrow and I'll have to start carrying my M&P9c.

I have had problems with my LC9 releasing the mag. I modified my IWB crossbreed style holster and loosened my belt and it seems to have fixed the problem.
I will test it a few more times & see what happens.

Both of my LC9 holsters don't cover the mag release button, if yours doesn't then I would suspect an issue with the magazine release like mine has.

Youre probably right. I googled and found that there are problems. Some occur when wriggling the mag, some when firing.
Some of the causes are the release button and some are in the mag.

I second the suggestion to check the holster. The AlienGear holster for my XDS has issues. The edge of the leather bisects the mag release button. if the edge were one side or the other, I don't think it would release the mag. I have relegated the AlienGear to a modified leg holster for inside cargo shorts. It seems to only be an issue when worn inside the waistband where pressure is applied to that area.

My holsters were the first and primary suspect for the mag release problem but after examining them, there is
no way my issue is related to holsters (unfortunately) nor does it have anything to do with my grip or draw technique. My LC9s is all boxed up and ready to fly to Prescott, AZ tomorrow
Bye bye, have a nice trip, hope to see you soon ...
