Have a friend who was a B-52 pilot and instructor. When he was based at Eaker in Blytheville, AR (now a FedEx maintenance facility) I got to do about 3 hours in their simulator. Was really cool.

I was in the 2nd grade in Ft Worth where they were built and brand new at the time. Was fun to seem them flying low and slow, well they seemed slow. Still get the chance to see them on trips to Shreveport (Barksdale, AFB).
No doubt they have been gutted and refitted several times with modern innards.

Great. Now I've got the tune for Rock Lobster running through my head.

Yes, the B-52 has definitely been a workhorse for the Air Force. I still a bit sad that we have seen the final days of this monster flying half-way around the world and delivering a world of hurt on the bad guys. I saw what they could do when they were carpet bombing parts of Laos and Vietnam... a truly awesome sight.

There was one at the Houston air show two weeks ago. It was a 1960 model.

My dad was a crew chief on the big birds when he did his time in the Air Force. I got to see them up close. As my dad has passed now, seeing one makes me a little sad.
