I was thinking about one of these type safes for my bedside . Just wondering if anyone had any personal experience with this kind of setup ?

IMHO, that's one of the two best for the purpose. The other can be found here.

I haven't personally used either, but I have pretty good knowledge of their construction and technologies.

This what I am giving my SIL for Christmas this year. I shopped a long time, and bought based on positive reviews instead of price. If you need quick access, you want it to be dependable. This would not be the time to have less that the best your could afford.

The gunvault lock mechanism is easily defeated. The Defcon link above is very interesting.

The lock used on the box referenced in the linkis a Simplex mechanical combination lock. You might want to review this article before making a purchasing decision.

These are meant to be quick access gun safes. The gun vaults aren't really designed to keep someone from ever breaking into it. They give you basic protection from theft while giving you convenient access to your gun all while keeping it safely stored away from others (especially children).

I have a Gun Vault floor model and it keeps my EDC pistols (always loaded) within reach. Battery has lasted over a year and I'm very happy with it. The buttons, like he said, are very easy to use at night. I do wish I had the light in mine though.

You are correct . The model I posted the link on is the same exact situation I plan on (installing on nightstand) . I believe it could be removed fairly quickly with a short pry bar. CoffeeNut hit it on the head , my teenage daughter brings friends home and other family bring kids over . I'm only looking for security so that kids don't get hurt at my home . I have other more secure safes for storing against theft .

The Hornady looks really interesting, especially with the bracelet. Does anyone on the forum own one of these? I'd like to hear about it's reliability.

I have a Barska compact Biometric safe which is fast-opening and requires only one button-push and application of a finger to open. Mine's in a cabinet with a front swing-open door but I think they also make a top opener which might work at a bedside.

Everyone has different ideas about these things of course, and I suppose if you don't mind wearing the Hornady Bracelet 24/7 including showers, baths, etc. then you're golden, but I don't like anything where you have to wear something, or where you might have to remember a code of any kind, or fumble with a keypad in the dark, to get at my weapon.

The Barskas are not for theft prevention IMO, only for keeping out-of-easy-access from anyone visiting/staying at your house.

there is no perfect solution. finding one that works for you is the ticket.
