Dog shot at Houston Dog Park

No details, but this has lots of ramifications.

I assume the person was a CHL. In fear of their life or the life of their dog.

No other means available to save your dog?

Other dog owner just fine with what you did, or not and is also a CHL.

Dog attacked you as you tried to separate the dogs, that probably would be the best situation to use deadly force for the CHL.

Wish there was more information. Stay tuned.

There is a lot of missing information here. It will be interesting to see what other information comes out.

Questioned and released. Must have convinced the responding officers the shooting was justified. Seems if there was much doubt they would have taken him in - "err on the side of caution" and all.

The pit bull type dog died. Shooter released. Getting rough with his dog. Witnesses seemed to indicate he over reacted.

This is "my" park.
I have gone there almost every weekend since it opened in May 2009.

I know Diesel - the dog who was shot
Diesel is a very friendly dog.

I carry every time I go there, as I carry every time I go everywhere, and I have actually had it run through my head, "would I ever draw and shoot on a dog".
My feelings were simple -- "if I ever needed to shoot a dog, how could I, as the dogs MUST be fighting and if they are fighting, how do I shoot one and 100% know I will not harm another?"

So when I have been there, and dogs have got a bit aggressive, I will dive in, grab tails, pull them apart, etc., but have never, and will never shoot a dog there.
--- dont get me wrong, I have only been there and had to pull apart dogs 3-4 times in 6 1/2 years.

Sounds like shooter was arrested, but DA declined to indict.

Maybe a good time/place to have pepper spray on hand?

Used to take the mountain dog to the dog park near westheimer in Houston. That was crazy. Lots of boxers, and pits running around. It was like all the animals were on speed. Quit that and took him to the Katy park instead. Much better.

Sorry but I don't trust pit bulls not on a leash. Not at all, and I even had one (raised like a normal dog). One moment they're fine the next moment they are attacking. We've been attacked multiple times by pits. I won't let that happen again. Its good to have good pepper spray when walking dogs. It give you good options. If you're a dog owner, the last thing you want to do is shoot another dog, its like shooting a bit of yourself.

Wish the article said more actual info though.

It's a shame. Anything can happen to a dog when it is not on a leash. It was obvious that the guy they interviewed was not really Pro 2A.

I won't get into the difference in breeds (I am a pit bull owner) but I am not sure if I could shoot a dog in this case. That is one of the reasons I carry pepper spray when we go to the dog park or even for a walk around the neighborhood. My Golden Retriever had gotten into a few altercations with other dogs while on walks as she was protecting us and her pit bull sibling. All of the altercations were broken up either without incident or with pepper spray being used. No shots were fired and my weapon never was even grabbed.

Now, my wife has a shirt that says "I don'r care who dies in a movie and long as the dog lives" so I wouldn't mess with her cause she means it

the witnesses they've shown on the news around here say that the dogs were playing and the guy over-reacted.

I have never taken my dogs to a dog park, there are reasons.
