Thanks for responding to the call-to-action. SB273 that would create a fine for governmental entities and agencies that post unenforceable 30.06 signs was voted favorably from the State Affairs Committee, as substituted. The committee substitute added a requirement that prior to filing a complaint with the AG, a citizen must first notify the governmental agency or entity in writing of the violation. If the violation is not cured within 3 days, then a complaint can be filed with AG.
This is actually a good amendment. When SB273 is placed on the Senate Intent Calendar, a call-to-action will go out asking everyone to contact their Senator and ask them to support the Bill. If you haven't already done so, please get the phone and fax numbers for your senator so you will be ready to respond quickly.
Thanks folks!
Chas.

Thanks, Charles. That is a good amendment. It gives the entity a chance to make the situation right without costing the taxpayers money but still holds the recalcitrant ones' feet to the fire.

Glad the bill got through committee. I noticed during testimony on the house companion bill (HB226), it looked like many 'ears went up' when witnesses explained to them how the 'statutory' laws worked that made the 30.06 sign optional for some entity locations.

That is great news. Having visited the Collin County building at 2300 Bloomdale Rd in Mckinney today which had unenforceable 30.06 signs on their door, as well as their CCPublic Wi-Fi access blocking

So how would the 3-day grace period affect 30.06 posting at gun shows held in city/county facilities?

None. The signs would be down before the end of the 3 day "cure" period, but that would be the case if a complaint were filed with the AG's office. The statute requires the AG to give the governmental entity/agency 15 days to remove the violation, so there's no practical impact. For reasons I can't go into now, I like the amendment to this Bill, as it could prove helpful for something else I want to add. Whether or not there are additional amendments, the additional 3 days doesn't have any practical impact.
