Renewal costs

I just got online to renew my CHL and get to the end of the nice easy process to see the $70 Texas CHL Renewal fee AND the $73.62 Texas.gov website fee. So can I not just go through DPS directly and save the $73.62? I see there is a form online I can use (CHL-77), but the Texas.gov had a few affidavit type questions, so not sure if I would need those as well.

Any insight would be appreciated

I think you're reading it wrong. A $70.00 renewal fee + a $3.62 online form fee.

When I renewed, I did it online, digitally signed the form, uthorized my fee, and that was it. No range re-qualification, no retaking fingerprints, or photos. Fast and easy, and a 16 calendar day turn around. ;-)

Well gosh, they could be clearer. But yes, I followed it through and when I went to submit it broke the cost up as an either or, not a both.

Check your receipt. Mine said "Total: $73.62"

Yup. I just checked my bank statement and was charged $37.83 for my renewal. $35.00 for Sr.citizen renewal + $2.83 for that silly online fee.

It's only the $73.72 total.
