I shot tonight with the Cross Timbers IDPA tonight and I just know I'm going to spend all kinds of money shooting now. It was the most fun I've ever had shooting! Thanks for a great time guys and I'll see ya'll next week.

Welcome to your new addiction.....it happens to many of us. Take in a couple of matches and see what you really need before spending a lot of money. Ask a lot of questions and visit this place:

http://www.idpaforum.com

The Glocktalk trading/selling area is likely the best forum for a variety of equipment...if you watch it for a week you can find just about anything and not have to pay new prices for it.

There are some very experienced shooters that frequent this board...just ask and I best one of them will pop up and offer some very valuable information...we will all learn from what they teach you.

You have no idea.

Seriously, glad you had fun and wish I could've been there. Here's my .02 on getting started in IDPA.

1) Safety is THE most important aspect of this game.
2) 90% of the game is mental. If you believe you will do well, then you will. Do not talk about your shooting in anything but a positive way. If you make a mistake, don't dwell on it. Just move on to the next thing.
3) If another shooter starts talking to you about how bad they shot, or any other negative, don't listen. Change the subject or get away from that person.
4) Dry Fire practice is VERY IMPORTANT. It's more important than live fire practice imho.
5) Never forget it's a game and it's supposed to be fun. If you're not having fun, figure out why and change it.

I look forward to shooting with you at a future Cross Timbers match!

Oh yea, the great thing I read about IDPA is that it's not a gear race. Your basic gear is all you need. Not fancy expensive speed shooting stuff.

Freudian slip? :smilelol5:

Gary: you gotta use that ol' John Madden quote, "90% of the game is half mental."

kills me every time I hear it.

Both my daughter and I are addicted to IDPA. Thank gosh we never even consider running close to the rules......that would be called gaming.

With the hi rate of addiction both in Houston and Dallas, we might need to start a chapter of IDPA-Anonymous. Who wants to be the chapter president?

If you shoot at PSC this weekend, come and say hi. I will be the bald guy running the clock. <g>
