From fox 4 news
Dallas police are working to secure the area around its downtown Headquarters building after an early morning attack.

A man driving what is described as some type of armored vehicle drove to the Dallas Police Department Headquarters building on South Lamar Street, rammed a police car and opened fire. Officers returned the fire. No officers were injured in the exchange of gun fire.

Police are now working to remove suspected bags near the Headquarters building that may contain explosive devices. The bags were left by the suspect. Police will begin controlled detonations of at least one bag near the police building just before 5am.

Following the shooting incident the suspect drove to a remote location near Hutchins, southeast of Dallas. Police have the suspects vehicle surrounded at that area. Police say they are talking with the suspect. The suspect has told police that he has been injured but say they cannot confirm any injuries to the suspect

0700 - two explosive devices have detonated, according to witnesses in the area around DPD's HQ. The PD's bomb squad robot set off one device, described as a pipe bomb... Witnesses say about 4:45, another device detonated, though the police have not briefed the media on that detonation as of now.

The suspect(s) is/are still in the Jack In The Box parking lot, and still talking with DPD SWAT negotiators, according to WFAA Ch8 reporters near the scene.

IH45 traffic has been stopped in Hutchins, traffic being diverted to IH-20 westbound. Expect extreme traffic delays on the interstates in South Dallas this morning.

Crazy stuff going on...

The man has identified himself as James Boulware, 50, who has a history of family violence and blames authorities for his losing custody of his son, Dallas police Chief David Brown said. The gunman said he was going to blow up police because they “took his child and accused him of being a terrorist,” Brown said.

Authorities cautioned that they have not confirmed the man is who he says he is. But in 2013, police in Paris, Texas, said they arrested James Lance Boulware after he obtained firearms, ammunition and body armor before threatening to attack his family, churches and schools. Police said then that he was taken into custody on two felony warrants from Dallas County.

I know some people who live in the apartments across the street from HQ. The apartments were fully evacuated as things unfolded.

Glad to heard no officers were hurt.

Bill: Did you hear about the attack at DPD this morning?
Ted's Mom: Yeah, well what do you expect with Open Carry and Campus Carry now legal. We said blood would run in the streets, and there you go! :bigmouth
Bill: Uh, Ted's Mom?
Ted's Mom: Yeah?
Bill: Those bills weren't signed until this afternoon, 12 hours after the attack.
Ted's Mom: Well, still ... :bigmouth
Bill: And they don't actually become law for several months.
Ted's Mom: Uh...
Bill: And it wasn't on a college campus.
Ted's Mom: :???:
Bill: And the guy wasn't openly carrying. In fact, he used a gun that is already illegal.
Ted's Mom: Oh.
Ted's Mom: But I bet the guy was black, murdered in the streets by racist white cops! Black lives matter! Hands Up Don't Shoot! :mad5
Bill: The guy was white.
Ted's Mom: Really? :confused5
Bill: Yeah; really.
Ted's Mom: Oh.
Ted's Mom: Then why was it on the news? :confused5

That was Bill and Ted's Mom's Most Disturbing Adventure, brought to you by FUWMSM (Fed Up With Main Stream Media) :banghead:

The police did an excellent job. Praise the Lord no one else was injured or killed other than the perpetrator. Thumbs up to Dallas Police.

Prayers sent for the perpetrators parents. I am sure their hearts are broken.

It's a neat neighborhood. . . reminds me of the West 7th development in Fort Worth. My company has a 24/7 data center next door to the HQ building - they share the parking garage with the PD. Every time I'm there I like go for a coffee at the great little spot across tbe street and always stop by the lobby of the HQ and look at the museum pieces in the lobby - including the helicopter that was apparently hit by the perp.

The irony is that the HQ's presence makes most people feel safer while being south of I-30.

It is a true miracle that no innocents were injured. Praise God!

I hope this was just a poor choice of words. Bold and brazen would have been much better word selection.
