My friend and I are attending the August 19-21 class in Georgetown. I'm just wondering if any other forum members will be attending.

Well, looks like I will be the sole representative of this forum; I hope to do it proud!

I assume you're getting your CHL instructor license. When you're up and running, post your details or PM me. I have a friend in need of a class in that area, especially if you may offer weekday/evening classes.

I would like to go but I am on the waiting list.

You said you were taking the instructor course in Georgetown and it's only 3 days? When I went in "11 it was 4.5 days. Wow! It that due to you being TCLEOSE or NRA Instructor ? What are the hours required?

Not sure, I got the email confirmation and it states that those were the dates.

Did they mention their plans for renewing those of us expiring this year?

billypat, they have always had a 'reduced course' for people that were already instuctors. When they started requiring everyone to be an instructor before they could take the CHL instructors course, it made sense to just teach the 3.5 day version.

At Charles' conference, they said they are going to be sending out emails/letters 'soon'. We will have to 'renew' online, pay the fees, document current NRA instructor status (or equivalent) initially. Later we will have to watch a video on retention and certify that we have watched said video and are up to date on the new laws. We will NOT have to take a test online, nor will we have to show proficiency with another instructor, this cycle.

The Sargent in the last course said exactly that; basically this next instructor renewal will be a "pay the fee online" renewal.

I was in the August 19-21 class too. I just got my instructor cert on Saturday 9/5. I've been trying all week to get RSD to respond to email asking where my login credentials are. Anyone else who was either in this class or maybe an earlier recent class know how this works? I see on the DPS site they have several instructor resources but the PDF files are password protected. In the course they didn't cover this but I thought they said we'd get some kind of packet with the info. I only got the cert. I have about 80 people waiting to take the CHL class from me but I can't even get an answer on what to expect next. Also, when I call DPS, they said you have to email RDS. I told them I had several times. "How do YOU get a hold of them?" I asked. She said I could try to fax them. Great. So I did that. Still no response.

Did anyone else get their login or "how to run a class and submit the forms to RDS" info yet? For veteran instructors, how long did you wait from class to certification to fully credentialed?

You don't need a special login to submit your paperwork. Go to the contact DPS site, check Concealed Handgun and one option is Submit CHL-8 (Instructors only). You'll need your CHL # from your license.

You'll have to figure out how to electronically sign the CHL-8 or print, sign, scan it first.

The test, answer sheet, etc. are password protected. They should have provided that. Maybe you can find a buddy that 'knows' you are certified to give you it. Obviously, we cannot post it here, this is an open forum and they are members that are NOT instructors.

the password for the protected files area should be on the BACK of your instructor certificate.
