CC in Branson, Missouri?

Since there is so much entertainment, food and drink in the Branson area, is there anything unusual or out of the ordinary I need to look out for when carrying concealed there?

I've read the state laws where you can't carry:

• Any place prohibited by federal law.
• Public Buses – Felony.
• MetroLink Trains – Misdemeanor.
• And the 17 Locations where not authorized - But is not a criminal act.

Thanks, PWR

Nope, you pretty well covered them. Just be aware of the signage requirement which is 11x14 and states in some manner 'no concealed carry'. Overall, Missouri laws are pretty lenient on concealed carry. :-)

I worked in KC, MO for several years and have not seen a problem about CC. The laws are very similar to TX and as Keith B. said you may want to familiarize your self with local statutes. I guess they are very much like police officers in Texas.

If I remember correctly and you should verify this. Recently MO passed a State Premption law eliminating certain local ordinances. When the effective date is, I do not know.

It is already in effect. That basically only prevented the cities from prohibiting open carry if you were licensed. Preemption on other firearms laws was already in place.

Been there several times and no problems carrying. Just got back from a trip there and saw my first no carry sign. It was at the senior center and said guns not allowed in building by city ordnance. I think pre exemption would over rule it but didn't carry in there anyway. I was just checking to play their par 3 golf course and carried on the course while I was outside.

On a very positive note, I went to the Clay Cooper theater to see a show. Posted above the entrance was a sign with a silouette of a hand gun and said "CRIMINALS BEWARE, Concealed Licensed Carriers Are Welcome In This Theater". And wouldn't you know it, Clay Cooper is originally from Texas! Great show too.

Clay is a great guy. Have met him a couple of times at the hot air balloon festival in Branson. He is really down to earth and fun to be around. :-)

As for the sign on the city buildings, it is allowed by statutes http://www.moga.mo.gov/mostatutes/stath ... 01071.html
Missouri revised statute 571.0107
....
(6) The general assembly, supreme court, county or municipality may by rule, administrative regulation, or
ordinance prohibit or limit the carrying of concealed firearms by permit holders in that portion of a building
owned, leased or controlled by that unit of government. Any portion of a building in which the carrying of
concealed firearms is prohibited or limited shall be clearly identified by signs posted at the entrance to the
restricted area.
The statute, rule or ordinance shall exempt any building used for public housing by private
persons, highways or rest areas, firing ranges, and private dwellings owned, leased, or controlled by that unit
of government from any restriction on the carrying or possession of a firearm. The statute, rule or ordinance
shall not specify any criminal penalty for its violation but may specify that persons violating the statute, rule
or ordinance may be denied entrance to the building, ordered to leave the building and if employees of the
unit of government, be subjected to disciplinary measures for violation of the provisions of the statute, rule
or ordinance. The provisions of this subdivision shall not apply to any other unit of government;
So, while they can prohibit it, as with all of the prohibited locations listed in the statute, it is not a criminal act if you do carry there, but you can be required to leave if found carrying or charged with trespass if you refuse.
