So, one day you’re working on your ranch in Utah, and you think “you know, when the zombie elk apocalypse comes, I had better be prepared. I’ve got a rifle, and some ammo, but what happens when I run out?”

Well, obviously you make your own gunpowder, and to do that you need to watch the following videos from YouTuber Cody of the channel Cody’sLab

Urea has been used to make explosives, but this is ludicrous.

You still need sulphur and charcoal.

It was quite common, during the late War of Northern Aggression, for southern ladies to save the necessary product for gunpowder production.

Charcoal is the easiest to obtain, but he also shows how to get sulphur or an adequate substitute.

I actually found this very informative. I've wondered how one could obtain saltpeter and sulfur if one had to make it oneself.

Didn't watch the video but saltpeter, Potassium Nitrate, can be extracted from ashes of wood, bat guano, and other sources. It supplies the oxygen for the reaction. Urine was used early on in the production of gun powder, black powder that is, to help keep the slurry moist to prevent the building from blowing up. It was said that a bishops urine made the highest quality powder.

Very interesting. I hope we never have to make our own from urine. Adding a urine disclaimer to the famous line "I love the smell of gunpowder in the morning" doesn't have the same effect.

My Cabela's ammo list may now be large enough to merit a special trip with powder & ball added to it...
