As long as they don't mind getting a reply that says "none of your business", what the hey?

Wow, don't even know what to say in regards to that survey.

Either that, or turn it in (without a name, it's optional after all) after having been used as a target for rimfire practice?

The survey was put together by students in the newspaper staff.

So no, it's not the school asking people if they have guns, it's the fellow students.

The survey is completely optional as well.

Without any assistance with forming the questions from a liberal teacher, right?

Yeah, sure...

Before they could hand it out it still had to be approved by at least one teacher.

This turned out to be a project instituted by the school newspaper and journalism students - it was student led and produced, though with the permission of the journalism teacher. The newspaper has a history over several years of doing different types of surveys/projects with the results published in their newspaper.

Nothing to get worried about - no one was REQUIRED to participate and no one was required to furnish a name.

There's absolutely no possibility this project was steered (read manipulated) by a liberal journalism teacher.

Right?

Because we all know how very many journalism types are conservative...

If it was supposed to be manipulated by a liberal teacher, I'm sure the survey would have been worded quite differently. There are more positive/neutral connotations on the survey than negative. It was only distributed to about 100 students. If someone was trying to push an agenda here or get a "list" for the "gubment" it would have been pretty apparent.

The whole survey was optional, but if you chose to fill it out, Name & Grade were extra-optional. So if you chose to fill it out, you could do so completely anonymously.

I get that it's a day in age that we have to worry about our rights being trampled and the government creating a registry, but a high school newspaper survey does not a registry make.

It's not the questions but the answers, and what will become of them that would give me pause.

I still think "none of your business" is the best, and correct, answer.

Looks like I need to start talking to my daughter about how to answer or not answer something like this if or when she encounters it.

I have a kid at that school who didn't hear about the survey until I asked.

Same here. Some folks got their panties in a twist real fast. What people don't know is that HHS is a pretty "conservative" school. Many of the teachers are customers to my gun business

Many of us parents voiced our discomfort with the question asking how many guns we owned, citing security concerns. The principal, who is new this year, definitely got a lot of pressure from a LOT of places, and most of those places didn't take the time to get the facts.
