A new shakedown scheme is being used in Manila by the airport security there. Bullets are placed in your luggage as it is being examined. You are then given the option of paying a bribe or being arrested. Most pay the bribe.

I read the linked article and have to ask - I didn't read anything about it being a scam or that there were bribes being paid. Did you get that part of the story elsewhere?

Sorry. I read it somewhere else. However, a Japanese citizen is highly unlikely to have a 9mm bullet, since what would he possibly do with it. Except maybe as a display piece on his mantle. To me this clinched the claim that a scam was going on.

A friend who is from Manila, says it is normal for customs to require a bribe to get your luggage into the country, especially if you are bringing gifts for friends there. They will want cash or one of the gifts.

Here is another one. I guess this would be the just the beginning if Obama and Hilliary had their way. Imagine the police powers required to enforce a total gun and ammunition ban. And then the corruption that that would lead to as illustrated here.

Thanks for the additional links! As someone who travels internationally I definitely wanted to keep this one on my radar. I haven't travelled there and apparently that's yet another location that I should add to my "do not fly to" list.

Another story I read said that the cab drivers or other people who handle your luggage are paid by the security people to slip the bullets in. They recommended wrapping all your luggage in saran wrap head to toe before you leave for the airport.
