I am going to be heading to the Ringling Brothers circus at the Frank Erwin center this weekend. I haven't been there in years... probably not since 1995 when my high school graduation was held there. Does anyone know if it is posted or otherwise a legally prohibited location? I can't imagine that a circus would fall under the professional sports thing so I am clear on that front. Is it even a private venue or is it owned by the .gov or maybe even UT?

Let's assume you are correct (and it sure does look like you are, based on that URL) - it is owned by UT. Does that mean it is classified as a school? I don't think I want to be a test case...

UT uses it for orientation, and for some commencement ceremonies. Unfortunately I don't know much more than that.

I think it is classified as part of a college campus.

It is also a venue for professional sporting events at certain times.

That having been said, I do not know whether it is lawful for you to carry at the event you are planning to attend.

It was used for some students events (like career fairs) while I was there. I'd have to go with "no" on this one, not ok to carry inside. Car in parking lot ok.

Well I left it at home, but based on the sinage I saw (gunbuster type signs), I would have to assume that it is not classified as part of the college campus. I didn't see anything to convince me of that, but it was a general feeling that I got based on everything I saw. So I didn't carry and probably won't next time I go unless I get additional information clarifying what the situation is. Although the next time I go might be in another decade and who knows what it will be like then...

I don't condone carrying where you are not suppose to carry but when I am not sure I generally stick a Pocket pistol in the pocket I have a PPKs 380 just for that.
If the place is legally marked I go back and put it in my car locked up, if not then I have the minimum cal weapon on me I feel safe with.

I know I'm a little late, but I believe the Erwin Center is an extension of the UT campus. Is that not where they play all of their basketball games? I, too, went to the circus but didn't carry for that very reason.

Assuming it IS part of campus, it is unlawful to carry into the building.

I work for a UT system hospital. they don't have 30.06 posted for the hospital but I can tell you they are very serious about making sure folks know this is an extension of the UT system and guns are not allowed.

I can't imagine they would be any different about other extensions of UT.

I would say carry would be asking for trouble.
