I have a thin .5 inch scratch on my Glock slide. Does anyone have any DIY fixes ?

I understand how you feel, however, it probably wont be the last one. If it is deep (where you can feel it with a fingernail) then Id just leave it alone. If it is just a light surface scrath I just rub it with oil and it should be ok. Guns are tools and tools get used (holster wear).

:iagree: My carry pistol has a lot of wear. Scratches on it don't bother me.

its a Glock, its made to be abused! :)
I know it doesn't make you feel better, but it won't hurt the gun, the action or realistically if you were to ever sell it, the resale value

Not to sound flippant, but on a Glock, if it bothers you, perhaps the best solution (short of refinishing it) is a magic marker or sharpie. Cold Blue or other common "scratch fixes" tend not to work well on a Glock, at least not the ones I've tried (not that I've tried very hard).

Should you decide to refinish eventually, a Cerrokote (spelling?) finish seems to hold up nearly as well as the old original Tennifer finishes.

Like the Craftsman Tool guy, I'm more curious how I managed to leave a mark a Glock than I am concerned about having done it. It sure won't rust, which is my biggest concern short of screwing up a sight.

that is why I said "if you were ever...."
Im with you, no more selling any guns! (made the mistake of selling a couple 4 years ago, which I wish I had back!)... decided not to sell any more at all!

You're right about resale value. I've been known to buy used Glocks sight-unseen...short of frame damage or blown barrels, there's virtually nothing you can do to them that can't be fixed with a sub $20.00 part.

I'll eventually cerrokote it but it'll have to take some more abuse.

You are right, should get an M&P, not an XD (or a Glock):
