For a long time on this forum, many of us have discouraged approaching business owners about legally compliant signs, feeling that "let sleeping dogs lie" was the best policy. (We all know that it's perfectly legal to walk past a non-compliant sign.) Now that OC is here, I'm not sure this is the best approach any longer. We have had several reports recently of people talking to management and subsequently the policy was changed to allow carry, if not OC at least CC. So I'm curious to see how people feel about this now. Has your opinion changed? Should we talk to business management/owners and explain the law and the impact of preventing carry entirely when the post legally compliant signs?

I figure if they put up illegal signs, some of them meant to do so to keep the anti's satisfied. Why rock the boat?

I feel it's to soon to talk to owners/mgmt. about taking down their signs. The law is so new, everyone is still trying to digest the changes, including the CHL/LTC holder. I say, let's let the dust settle on this a while.

Personally, with how much misinformation is being fed to business owners, I feel it is a good idea to educate them on the reality behind their decision: what each sign means and the consequences of posting it. I've heard several reports of business owners ignorantly erecting both signs with the intent to prohibit open carry only. If that's the case, they will never know if you don't tell them.

I'm sorry, but there is not enough information to answer this question honestly.

Would I tell an owner about an invalid 30.06 is a VERY different question from whether I would talk to an owner about a valid 30.06 sign that was newly installed.

Sorry for the confusion. I was referring to legally compliant signs. I'll edit my original post.

If I see an .07 or .06 sign pop up at any place I shop, I let them know that I am insulted at their lack of respect for American values. I also tell them I don't do business with people that don't trust me to carry. Simple.

Why limit the number of places I can carry? Also trying to get them to at least allow concealed carry pretty much let's then know I carry concealed and I don't looks people to know I carry.

Non compliant sign? Silence is golden.

Compliant sign? Nothing to lose from a polite conversation.

Always felt this way. Have been successful several times. In both TX and in NC where a gunbuster is a legal sign.

Some of the new properly worded, sized, and with the Spanish verbiage necessary for a 30.06 sign to be valid are often being posted now due to the business owners not fully understanding what they're posting.

As an example: Some think they are required by law that if they post 30.07 they are then compelled to post 30.06. which of course isn't the case.

I'm going to start carrying cards that politely inform businesses won't be getting my business dollars because of their posting of 30.06.

I might mention or question the compliant sign ONLY if I knew the Owner/Manager. Otherwise, you might as well be talking to the parking meter outside.

In fact, I intend to ask the manager of the local Austin Bank (if he's in church this morning) why his location has a BIG .07 sign and the HQ bank in Jacksonville and another branch up the road don't appear to have signs. Don't get me wrong, I really don't care, I'm just curious.

This will become more interesting when it gets hot , and the jackets and coats come off.

I'm curious to know what his answer is since the branch in Frankston is posted with a .07 sign. Please feel free to PM me if you don't want to post it here in this thread.

If someone in my small town put up a 30.06 I might politely talk to them. As for the 30.07, I could care less.

Someone mentioned talking to a store owner/manager (seemed like a mom and pop store...) in another thread, and that the store owner/manager was told that they HAD to post both the 30.06 and the 30.07 sign. I wonder who told them that, and how many other owners/managers have been told the same. I'm guessing that it was either the people selling the signs or maybe a retail association...
If they're being misinformed, they aren't going to know they've been misinformed until someone tells them.
