Its called stereotyping, we all do it, we shouldn't, but we do. This gunman/robber's mistake is he left the digital photo behind after the robbery.

His not stereotype appearance allowed him to get close to apparently lots of people in parking lots when he pulled a gun and robbed them.

I guess the message to the youngsters "stranger danger" is important even for adults.

Sorry, I don't give a dime, much less $100. And no one is walking with me to the ATM.

The cynic in me feels this could be bad drug deals. But oh well, he's locked up now I guess.

This issue appeared in my neighborhood FB page (I live near & shop at the West Gray St Kroger's where he was apprehended). I have to admit I was skeptical that this crime report was legit - who would pose for a smiling, relaxed looking, very well lit picture just before performing a felony? But turns out this was a real story, not a character assassination by an estranged spouse or something. Turns out one of the guys on our FB page knew this character from 20 years ago & said he was always up to no good. And the BG's last know address (in voter registration records) was a halfway house.

My best guess is that he's either so addled from too much crack to think about the evidence left behind, or he planned on stealing the phone as well but forgot or got distracted.

Back to the OP - yes, agree completely about profiling. Another guy said that the BG tried to pull the same scam in front of the River Oaks theatre, but he could tell the story wasn't legit & didn't follow the BG around the corner for his scheduled mugging.

I don't stereotype, i basically profile. The word 'profiling' is being skewed to try and claim stereotyping, which it isn't. Now, I don't really care what color a person's skin is, their nationality or social status, but I do analyze those factors when I evaluate the person and the setting. If they come in the store in the middle of summer wearing a hoodie and a ski mask, no matter what color skin, they're gonna get me on the ready to draw.

It's a shame that common sense has become so politically incorrect.

It's not fair that so few have it, so it must be neutralized, gelded, rendered useless, in the nane of equality, you know. All men are created equal and all that.

Lowest common denominator, etc.

Clean cut man not being charged with a crime. Still being held on a parole violation. (conceal carrying a gun?)

I guess his drivers license was not fake.

In a surprise move, the robbery victim was not charged with filing a false police report.

If you're dumb enough to give a total stranger $100, then you might feel like you got robbed, but it was your decision. That's not theft. He's apparently a pretty good con man.

I'm starting to think these folks are realizing they were conned and feel like idiots so they spin the story to make it sound like they were robbed. Sounds like their egos were bruised.

I profile and I also stereotype. I do this many, many, times every day on both a conscious and a subconscious level. And IMHO there is absolutely nothing wrong with it.

Just this morning, I was driving in to work and noticed a car in front of me where the driver was holding a phone to their ear. I immediately stereotyped the driver as someone who might be distracted. As I passed him, his car swerved into my lane. I was prepared and managed to avoid a collision in part because I had taken a moment to do some profiling.

Appears this is what may have happened. But if that is the case why no false police report charge. The law is the law according to the DA.

Thanks for the update. Interesting how the HC DA changed turned against the film producers in the high profile baby murder case but seems to not be interested in applying the same level of law enforcement to a low profile less politically charged incident.

I think this illustrates a lot about the DA's motives and tactics.
