A woman was robbed by six men while walking down the street in broad daylight and the crooks managed to get away seemingly unnoticed.

According to Killeen police, the group approached the woman on Wednesday afternoon, shortly after she cashed her paycheck at a local Ace Check Cashing store. She was walking in the 100 block of West Avenue A, just after 12 p.m., when the incident occurred.

Luckily that woman was not hurt.

Police say they aren't sure how the men knew she had that cash on her or how the group managed to get away.

Officers told News Channel 25 that the group consisted of three Black men, two White men and one Hispanic man.

This is still a very active investigation, as detectives continue combing the area for nearby surveillance videos that may have caught the crime.

Police are asking anyone with information to call the Killeen Police Department at (254)-501-8830.

KILLEEN, Texas (KWTX) Police are looking for six suspects after a woman was robbed at gunpoint as she returned home from cashing a check.

The victim, who was not identified, was robbed at around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 100 block of West Avenue A in Killeen after she cashed the check at a check-cashing business on East Rancier Avenue.

She told officers six people approached her, produced a handgun, took the cash, and then ran in the direction of Rancier.

She said two of the robbers were black, one wearing a gray sweatshirt and the other dressed all in black.

Two others were white, one wearing a red shirt and the other a white shirt.

The sixth robber, she said, was Hispanic and was dressed entirely in green.

No further details were immediately available.

The victim wasn’t injured.

Sounds like she spent it all on scratch offs and needed an excuse for where the money went. I wonder if any video of her buying them will surface.

Same thing happened to our receptionist....a number of years ago. Only in a Walmart Parking lot.

She had cashed her paycheck at Walmart, done some shopping and was walking out to her vehicle. A man jumped out of a vehicle that was following behind her, grabbed her purse, knocking/pulled her to the ground. She held onto the purse, but when the man raised his fist...as if to hit her.... she let go.

He got back into the vehicle and he and driver sped off. She told police she recognized the man that took her purse as someone that was standing inside the store earlier. Her purse (less her wallet) was found in the street...just blocks away.

We all chipped in at work...to replace her money.

She said the incident really rattled her and that for some reason...it caused her to think how easily she could have been abducted.

She is a diminutive woman, standing about 5' and weighing 95 pounds at most. She readily accepted the good advice to exercise more situational awareness, but in this case...it might not have made any difference.

On her being the key. In the purse wouldn't have done any good.

It is possible, I suppose, but in this instance she was unaware of a pending attack. The perp came up from behind her and snatched the purse (her first clue something was wrong). Reflexively, she held onto the purse strap, which is actually what caused her to go to the ground (I wrote 'knocked' her to the ground earlier). In situations like that...it isn't always possible (or even advisable) to draw or attempt to draw your weapon. Many times...the more immediate need is to protect against injury that would prevent you from acquiring your weapon, if the need should arise.

Even if she had been armed....in this case (lacking any pre-awareness), there simply was not time to react and with such disparity of force (her small size and relative strength), the outcome was near 'certain'. No doubt, that is why they chose her.

I certainly would never argue...that being armed is not a good thing (in most circumstances), but I would argue that being armed ALWAYS provides a solution. I am sure most would agree.

To address her main concern (abduction), the presence of a weapon (on her person)...might well offer an opportunity (at some point) to defend against it. Hard to say, since so many variables are possible. I know the incident was traumatic for her and troubled her for quite some time.
