Anybody else having troubles (failure to fire) with Winchester Train and Defend ammo, especially .380 ACP. Had quite a few failures to fire, despite a good strike on the primer. This was several months ago and I'm wondering if Winchester has fixed the problem.

Never used it. Interested to see if there are any other problems.

It is on purpose. Got to train for malfunctions also. :biggrinjester:

And defend yourself with something other than your pistol. :biggrinjester:

What make/model of pistol was it?

If your certain it's the ammo & not the gun I'd suggest contacting Winchester. I had a handful of Winchester White Box .40 Cal rounds with jacked up brass about 2 years ago; they sent me a shipping label to return them, & they sent me a check in the mail. It was a much better dialogue than I had with the CCI/Blazer people about their Blazer Brass shedding the jacket as the rounds exited the muzzle ("It's OK, it happens with certain guns. It won't hurt the gun; just don't shoot so close & you won't notice the shrapnel holes in your target ", said their rep...).

Had a couple of similar experiences with Wichester White Box 9mm. Pulled bullet on one and it must have been a dead primer as there was powder in the case. That was the WWB ammo I used on the Instructor Course. Cost me 5 points at 3 yards!!

The other two were in matches so did not recover rounds to see what the problem was.

My current state is that if I cannot use my reloads (which have never had a FTF) I will use anything but Winchester. I have had really good luck with Federal and Blazer Brass for range ammo.

:iagree:
Same experience with WWB. Usually at least one FTF per box of 500. Always figured it was hard primers. Switched to PMC and IWI and no more issues.

I'm amazed at all of these FTF's. I can't remember the last one I had, and I've used all of the different cheap types of range ammo that I could find. I don't doubt others, just haven't experienced it myself.

I've used cases of 9mm 147 grain with no issues. Haven't used any other caliber in them

I used a box of the Train in 9mm, had 11 that would not go bang & was using 5 different pistols that day, I even tried to put the unfired rounds in another pistol & still nothing.

There have been problems with at least certain Train & Defend "Train* series 9mm ammo. A friend of mine had issues, and contacted Winchester. They traded him either 500 or 1000 rounds (don't remember which.)

So the problem is real. I don't know whether it's been pinpointed to a certain lot or lots yet, nor how widespread it is, but it has happened.

I'll see if I can get some more details.

I've been using Winchester Train & Defend in 9mm & .40 for a while now - maybe a couple of years. I've never had any issues. They've all fed & fired just fine.

I've read about similar problems with WWB on various forums but I had not experienced it personally until recently. About 2 weeks ago on the same day I had fail to fire on 3 of 50 in 9mm, and 2 of 50 in 45 ACP. None were from light strikes. I had no issues until then, and no issues with any other brands of ammo I've fired in either of these 2 guns.
