What are your thought? Is it harmful to the fetus?

I didn't think about it before, but my wife might have to miss this TexasCHLForum Day. She is almost 3 months now.

I would think that noise and lead inhalation could both be issues.
Of course I'm not a doctor.

Yeah, the lead could be a problem.

The day we found out we were pregnant, we went to the range (after a few hours of me cowering under the blankets at the thought of Number Five!)

This was an outdoor range with a 100 yard berm, so no lead inhalation worries. No revolvers, so no worries of lead shavings. All rounds fired were FMJ or JHP. Afterwards, I was the only one to clean the guns or handle any cleaning products.

John David will turn 3 in November, and not only has all his fingers and toes, he's scary smart. :D

Shooting while pregnant is fine, so long as you use common sense about the substances that can cause harm through inhalation or transdermal absorption. I'd probably refrain from six months on, because (as your bride will inform you), the baby jumping at loud noises can be distracting and uncomfortable. ;)

I would not allow my family to shoot while pregnant and if I were in charge of the range, I wouldn't allow pregnant ladies to shoot at the range.

It's not the lead. At an outdoor range that shouldn't be a problem

What I am concerned about is sound.

You could damage the baby's hearing.

My wife OB/Gyn advised against it. Lead, and noise. I don't buy the noise being bad for the kid, and I think as long as common sense is used the lead issue is not one. Of course I am no MD.

I would agree with that statement.

We went shooting a couple of times while my wife was pregnant with our first son. Granted she was only 2 months. The boy is now a healthy, happy, and annoying 3 year old brat. :D

By the time of the TexasCHLForum day she will be between 4 and 5 months. I would love for her to be there, but we will probably not risk it.

I don't think anyone is advising doing anything to harm the pregnancy, the baby or the mother...

To me there are inheirant risks to any activity while pregnant...

I have a nephew-in-law who has been a doctor for many years, and I trust his knowledge and skill as a doctor...

If I asked him I'd trust that answer...

The baby inside the womb can hear. I'm sure there is some sound dampening but it's still going to be very loud.

I wouldn't let my wife near guns if she were pregnant.

Of course if she were pregnant at our age, that would be a pretty neat trick.

How do you be happy about your own pregnancy when someone near jus lost theirs? Myself and another women at work got pregnant at the same time, but yesterday found out she miscarried.I am 9 weeks pregnant and she would have been 8. She has been very short with me, and asked another girl to ask me to take my pregnancy screensaver off of my computer. I have miscarried twice and understand what she is going through, but how do i continue to be happy and share the news with others i work with without hurting her.

I would not allow what happened to another through no fault of mine to dampen my pleasure. However, I would not do anything to increase her hurt. I would take the screen saver off and not have any conversations about your baby in front of her but I would NOT stop a conversation if she came up. She will need to learn to deal with her loss and how she does is entirely up to her and God. Which leads to the most important thing. Pray with her about the whole thing.

Yes, at about 30 weeks.
Shooting after the 3rd trimester starts isn't advised, but before is probably OK.
