2 license processors walk up to a stack of 200 applications, each will take 100 to process. Your application was number 100 in the original stack, your friends was number 101.

Date of completed application really isn't a comparative benchmark. You have to remember that the first phase of the background check is (mostly) computerized, but following that the application history has to be researched at the local jurisdiction level. Odds are, you and your friend haven't lived in all the same places or have the same histories. The more places you've lived, the more local jurisdictions will need to be checked; some have nicely automated records going back many years, and some don't.
That's why the background check for an LTC is more extensive and can't be compared to a computerized NICS check. Some folks think a positive NICS check and the ability to buy a firearm equates to approval for an LTC. Not so. There are more LTC disqualifiers than for an NICS check, and there's the whole local jurisdiction thing.

Is your friend better looking than you? There are numerous studies which show that people tend to subconsciously favor more attractive individuals, and the application does include photos after all.

Another thing to take into consideration is how common your name is. A buddy of mine and I had very similar timelines, up until the actual approval. According to
www.whitepages.com, my last name shows 69 exact matches in the state of Texas, his last name shows 833 exact matches in the state of Texas. I would imagine a more common last name could increase the time it takes to do a background check....to make sure that any issues aren't really your's.

It's subconscious, so you can't sue. Unless you are in Kalifornia or some similar country.

My wife and I applied on the same day last September, one after the other. I had my license in hand about 3 weeks before hers came in. No idea why.
