Warning to cyclist, runners, and walkers. Due to the north Texas monsoon some of the puddles formed have begun to grow slime algae. Hit a patch on the Cottonbelt Trail today and I had an ND. Not-so-good Dismount Lost a little skin and minor damage to the bike. Greatest thing of all was my ever present helmet while riding. I took a pretty good thump on the concrete and Ms. Bell kept mine from getting rung. My XDS Sub 9 was tucked into my bib shorts with a basic Blackhawk IWB holster. I landed on her and have an interesting bruise forming in the shape of the top slide. No pics due to forum rules She came out of the holster but not a scratch could I find. Function tested her with snap caps when I made it back to the house. Shout out to the gentleman in the white Ford car that checked on me!

Drivers: Seat belts and sober operators. Boaters: Life jackets and kill switches. Cyclist: Helmets and gloves. Runners and walkers: Watch your steps.

Some have, some are gonna!

Ouch!!! That's the best looking strawberry I've seen in years! wow! Glad you are ok other than the scrapes. Things would have been MUCH worse were it not for your helmet.

And glad the gun's ok too!

Good to see your noggin survived. Date on helmet indicates it was due for replacement. Today's helmets are so much better than they were years ago. Had to replace mine, but without the crash and burn.

30 years ago, I was training for Ironman. A woman I knew had placed in a triathlon high enough to get a number. We did some training together. One Saturday, we rode from La Jolla to San Clemente and back.

As we approached the intersection to go to the Torrey Pines glider port, a truck coming towards us started to make a left turn. Wonder Woman was a length or two ahead, slammed on her brakes, did about two and a half flips before sliding to a stop. She broke an expensive rim, and her wrist, and had she not been wearing a good Bell helmet, I would have had another funeral to go to.

You just can't be too careful.

I too have taken severe crashes on concrete.

Without the helmet I was wearing, I wouldn't be here.

Other very important safety items are a bar end mirror and gloves.

I know cycle purists disdain bar end mirrors, but without one you have to constantly turn around to see what's behind you. While looking behind you, you continue blindly traveling forward... a possibly life threatening thing to do and very, very preventable.

I really like the idea of the bar end mirror. Gotta get one for my hybrid. I really don't like not seeing what's behind me. Definitely will help with bike "negligents"...
