Seems like good time to add an AR style rifle to my inventory - looking at the Smith & Wesson M&P15 Sport II.
Anyone own this rifle or otherwise have comments and recommendations?
Thanks!

I've handled a few. Solid rifle. Nice upgrades over the gen 1.

I'm actually looking at this as well. Looks like good bang for the buck.

Bought mine about a month ago. It's a good basic rifle. Easy zero right out of the box. I added a TRS-25 budget red dot, a light, magpul hand guards and a bipod/handgrip. I was in the Army for 24 years and carried M4s (carbines) almost all of those years. This just feels nice an familiar to me. Let me know if you have any other questions.

I been looking at this rifle also.
My question is for the left handed shooters what kind of ambi features do you look for/put on an AR platform for shooting?

I'm now looking at spending more and leaning toward a Spikes Tactical LE or the Colt LE6920. I'd never heard of Spikes Tactical but reading some good reviews.

Ambi safety is all - all the other controls are easily manipulated left handed - perhaps a BCM charging handle or a BAD lever if you must

Thanks for the input. Last night I was doing some looking and I think I might just try and build an AR for my first one. I was thinking the place to start was with the ambi safety since I can get a parts kit with that already. I'll look at an ambi charging handle. I dont know how I feel about the BAD lever and having something that isnt the trigger in the trigger guard.

I don't think a lefty would even need a BAD lever since it is designed to be operated right handed. The bolt release is on the left side. (at least it is on mine)
But if you install an ambi mag release, and you decide to go with a bolt release extension, you may want to look at the troy version. the Magpul may interfere with the mag release. Here is a video:

I ordered one the other day, not here yet. Figured why not, I've only seen them come down in price, it's less than I paid for the Basic DPMS I bought, had many more features... and the DPMS has some dumb features, so I sold it last week, and ordered a MPS II as a replacement, and I'm sure I'll be more than happy with it.
I read plenty online between the AR556 or MPSII, and the ruger hasnt come down, so It made it a no brainer for me

We expect a FULL range report after you've put a couple hundred rounds through it.
I've done a LOT of reading about the AR's & comparisons, and IMO for an entry level AR, that gun gives you the best bang for the buck. I'm saving for it for sure. Well done!
