Situation is contained. But three officers feared dead. Seven wounded.

Report of a man walking down Airline Highway in Baton Rouge with a semi automatic rifle apparently is how it started.

Baton Rouge police corporal L’Jean McKneely just gave a press conference and said, in part, "Multiple officers were shot, we do have some that were killed. That’s what I know for sure right now... We’re securing the area with a deceased suspect, a suspect that has been killed. We’re making sure there aren’t any explosives in the area."

Evidently officers are trying to apprehend two suspects (the third is already dead), one of whom is believed to be a woman.

Rod Wheeler, speaking on Fox, says that he feels the officers were summoned to the location by a false call, and were victims of a planned and staged ambush.

Words cannot express my shock and horror of this murderous rampage. Prayers go out to the officers who were ambushed and the families, friends and loved ones.

Statements now indicating more than one shooter. One of the surviving officers is in very critical condition at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center.

Baton Rouge mayor Kip Holden: "The initial call was shots fired. Whenever an officer hears those words, those two words, the response is immediate, everybody in that area goes to that scene... I’m not sure whether it is related to [protests] but I can tell you the rhetoric that’s been spewed...I have to believe that some of that is related to that."
