the NEW Sig Sauer .45 acp revolver?

Just reading a novel and in the action scene, good guy hands his friend a gun to use in what they expect to be an upcoming gunfight. here is how the author describes the gun.

He opened the glove compartment and removed a blue-steel revolver. "This is a Sig Sauer .45 caliber," he explained as he loaded the clip, slid the safety to off and handed it to Mason.

I thought that might be good for a chuckle.

a few pages earlier in the same novel, a woman shoots a man with a shotgun two times and it tears him in half, and as he is falling, his finger pulled on the trigger emptying the CLIP and one of the rounds hit a propane tank and blew up an entire house.

BTW - this is from a writer who has written an entire series of cop and lawyer-in-trouble books, and I would think that he'd do just a tad bit more research. . . .but hey, what do I know?

I would stop reading, shread the book, and then burn the shredded paper. There is not one more word that I would want to hear from that author... Ever.

When you are a writer, that is your job; do your job.

Now we know where Hollywood gets some of their really dumb ideas about guns. :banghead:

Ah, he is probably describing a prototype revolver using moon clips. Yeah that's the ticket.

At first I thought the book was referring to the Sig-Sauer K310, but it didn't mention the fact that the revolver features a Mauser action or that it comes with both a German Shepard and a Greater Swiss Mountain Dog. "rlol"

If the author is David Baldacci, I won't be surprised. In the second book of his I read, he actually used the non-word "theirselves." Read nothing by him ever again.

Gotta go check the clip on my blue-steel Sig Sauer revolver...

Don't forget to rack the cylinder after checking your clip!

:iagree:

This!!

Before putting words to paper, a novelist should do his homework, especially if his target audience will have the knowledge to see his ignorance. I don't expect everyone to be fully knowledgeable, about every detail, but there are plenty of resources available to get the info correct, before you send it to the publisher. This is just as bad, if not worse than shoddy reporting by the media, because, people who may read this book, may take his descriptions as accurate. JMHO

Does that revolver come with a 30 caliber magazine clip that shoots 30 bullets in half a second?

Many action/adventure writers have zero knowledge about handguns.

It's annoying as heck to read "then he made certain the safety was on, on his Glock" or his "Ruger revolver", or some other inaccurate gun garbage, arrrgggghhhhh!!!

One of my favorite mystery writers, Jack Higgins, often has his characters use Baby Brownings. And these stories are set in current day.

Oh well. :???:

I want to write a novel and have a scene where I describe the protagonist as drawing his revolver and releasing the safety. Then, several pages later, while all the gun experts are still in a nit over my lack of gun knowledge, mention that the revolver in question is a Webley-Fosbery.

So critical. They are called "moon clips" and I have a bunch of them.
