I know this is a subject with no end, but I gonna ask anyway. I have a m&p9c carry gun. Qualified with it with AE 124 fmj. My question is if you have this gun which ammo due you choose for personal defense round. Brand & weight please. I've shot 115,124,&147's so far. 147 being most accurate as far as grouping goes. My 124's at 7 & 15 yards are hitting about 4 inches low to bullseye. The 147's are touching bulls eye. I've read up on all the ammo forums and everybody has their on opinion. I'm talking carry ammo only. I will buy cheaper ball ammo to practice with. Thanks in advance.

Speer 124 gr. Gold Dot hollow point is my choice, but if your gun doesn't like it, then it's not for you.

I like either federal 147gr in 9mm or Corbon 115gr +P.

But like stated above, run only if your gun feeds it and shoots it well.

Federal HST LE 9mm Luger Ammo 124 Grain is what I carry in my S&W Shield.

I also have a box of Hornady 115 gr FTX Critical Defense that I haven't shot yet.

Anything on the 9mm list is ok. I prefer Federal HST 147gr.

Federal hst (if you can find it) is my new favorite, Speer gold dots are very good as well
Get a reputable brand that your pistol feeds and you shoot well and you will be fine

I carry Hornady American gunner 124gr +P in my Glock 26. It shoots it very accurately and has a nice little pop. It will do just fine for Personal defense. Usually find it for around 13-15$ a box. But like others have said that make sure your gun likes it. I carried Speer gold dot for a while and while it was accurate out of my glock I seemed to get better grouping out of the hornady. Apples and oranges when it comes to hollow points you just need to find what you shoot best and what your gun likes. Happy hunting!

I carry Corbon Pow'RBall rounds in my 9mm. I like the nylon ball in the tip as they ride up the feed ramp easily. Also, they have some of the best ballistics from a muzzle energy that I have found; 1475fps and 483 ft/lbs. That's right up there with a standard .357 magnum round. :thumbs2:

Here's a review comparing the Pow'RBall against the Corbon original 115 JHP

While it may not have quite the penetration of some other bullets, they function extremely well in short pocket pistols with steep feed ramps. I would prefer to give up a little in the penetration department since they did a decent job, and have a reliable round that won't jam when I may be in less than optimal shooting position and don't have a solid wrist to work against.

Here are the top 3 self defense rounds as suggested by respected expert Mas Ayoob:

Winchester Ranger-T 127 grain +P+
Speer Gold Dot 124 grain +P
Federal 9BPLE 115 grain +P+.

I carry Speer Gold Dot 124gr +P

:iagree: with the Federal HST for the Shield.

I primarily use Corbon DPX. It's a little expensive and hard to get.

Hornady Critical Duty 137+P & Winchester PDX1 124+P in my Shield. Winchester PDX1 147 for the LCR currently.
